Wouldn't know; haven't read it. But, you should mind your manners. I don't put down your beliefs, and you shouldn't put down mine. I thought we were to exchange ideas, not be dogmatic on this board. Some people take all the fun out of discussing the Word of God. I hope you are not one of them. Janae. |

Janae - It is not my intent to take the "fun" out of discussing the word of God but to put the truth in it! No one is trying to "put down" your beliefs, Janae, or to launch an ad hominem attack against you. I have followed your posts and -- correct me if I am wrong -- what I hear you saying is that you interpret Isaiah 53 and other passages you have cited to be teaching that salvation is a package deal involving two elements, spiritual and physical healing. ..... I did not say that you were a Christian Scientist, but I did and do suggest that what you said in your post bears some resemblance to what they believe and teach. Let's keep this discourse on the level of biblical teaching, not personalities or personal feelings; on Bible study, not chatty "discussion." Janae, I bear neither ill will toward you nor wish to engender it in you or anyone else. I'm simply confused what seem to me incongruous and conflicting statements that you have posted regarding the relationship between spiritual healing and physical healing. I have taken some of your statements to be saying that salvation (spiritual healing) and physical healing are inter-dependent, i.e., that physcial healing is an integral and necessary element in salvation, i.e., spiritual healing. I merely am asking you kindly and respectfully to clarify your position in light of Scripture. You challenged my views and I responded to your challenge with scriptural support of those views. That's all I'm asking of you. --Hank
3 | claiming things in your life | Is 53:5 | Praise Be To God | 136084
Hank, My view is that Jesus' atoning death was complete and adequate for redeeming the whole person--spirit, soul, and body. As sin and sickness have become the twin giants designed by Satan to destroy us, so forgiveness and healing are joined as twin blessings designed by God to redeem us and make us whole (Ps. 103:3; Jas. 5:14-16). The believer should press on in humility and faith to possess the full provision of Christ's atonement, including the healing of the body. I would be grateful to know which statements you feel are incongruous and conflicting statements that I have posted regarding the relationship between spiritual healing and physical healing. Thank you. Janae. |

Janae, Welcome to the Forum and good to hear from you. I would have to echo Hanks' thoughts on this matter. I think in considering your statement that "my view is that Jesus' atoning death was complete and adequate for redeeming the whole person--spirit, soul, and body", historical context should be weighed. Is. 53:5 has never been interpreted as physical healing until relatively recent times! The majority of classical commentaries render the understanding as spiritual! It is spiritual healing that we need- far beyond the physical- for we shall ALL die eventually! I don't see the context of either Psalm 103:3 or James 5:14-16 as having to do with salvation and it's inherent blessings. We need to consider the whole of the teaching of scripture before we jump to conclusions such as "God always heals", or "His death was intended to provide physical healing", etc. I don't believe scripture warrants this. Read Hebrews 11:36-38 and tell me that God always wants us healed! Note verse 39 :"And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised". By faith some lived and some died horrible deaths. Did God neglect to heal them, or was there perhaps another, more noble purpose He had in mind? I think there was. The error of much of todays' teaching is that God wants us healthy, wealthy and wise! While we may receive such blessings they're not a guarantee. (See Job. 1:9) If I may offer you some advice: We all come to our study of the Word with certain presuppositions. Part of learning and truly desiring to seek Him is to set aside our presuppositions and be open to input and insight from other, more mature believers! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
