I disagree. You are not giving God credit for divine healing, which can be claimed through this scripture. Also, we are to decree, declare and proclaim God's Word. God's Word. Not just any words or anything we might desire. God's promises. God's Word is true, and everything else is subject to change by that Word. I live it every day. I want everything God has for me. I take offense that you think I belong to the false teaching of "name it and claim it." Far from it. I claim the promises God has for me (and everyone who believes) in His Word--one of which is divine healing. Pardon the personal illustration, but I speak from experience. The doctor told me I had arthritis and last year, I had a couple of bad spells where I could not even walk. However, a couple of months ago I got prayed for and God healed me. He took away that arthritis, and all the pain that went with it. I was in terrible pain prior to being prayed for, and walked with a pronounced limp--but ever since that prayer, I have had pain just one time, and that was Satan trying to make me claim that arthritis back into my life. But, I didn't listen to him. I continued to claim my healing and to this day, I have been pain free and I walk without a limp now. I would be interested to know the denomination to which you belong. Have you seen the dead raised to life? My friend is a missionary and she has seen it. Also, a pastor friend of mine has seen it. I have not seen it, but I believe it. How about you? Do you belive the physically dead can be raised to life? | ||||||

Hi, PBTG! If you think about it, *all* healing comes from God. This is part of how God, in His loving-kindness bestows grace on all men. Look at the context of this verse. There is no mention of physical ailments in this chapter. It is entirely about the sacrfice of our Lord Jesus Christ for the sins of His elect. Your interpretation takes a single phrase in a single verse out of context. This violates the principles of a sound hermeneutic. Also, please note that the gospel is not about physical healing. If the gospel were about physical healing, it would be a dismal and utter failure! Every single believer since the time of Christ has met the same fate: failure to recover from physical ailments. Even Lazarus died again! So why did Christ heal during His ministry? As a sign that He was Messiah (Isaiah 35:5-6). See Matthew 11. I am not discounting your claim to having recovered from arthritis in a miraculous way. God is gracious. I am grateful to Him no matter how the mechanics of your healing has been accomplished. In Him, Doc |

Dear Doc, Take a look at Matthew 9:1-8, please: 1 And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city. 2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. 3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. 4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? 5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? 6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. 7 And he arose, and departed to his house. 8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men. I did not take Isaiah 53:5 out of context. This healing refers to salvation with all its benefits, spiritual and physical. Sickness and disease are the result of the fall and Satan's activity in the world. "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil." (I John 3:8) Christ gave gifts of healing to His church (I Cor. 12:9) and commanded His followers to heal the sick as part of their proclamation of the kingdom of God (Luke 9:1-2,6; 10:1, 8-9,19). "Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases." Signs following those who believe: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." (Mark 16:17-18). The Scriptures clearly teach that it is the desire of Christ for His followers to perform miraculous deeds as they announce the gospel of the kingdom of God. These signs, performed by true disciples, confirm that the gospel message is genuine, that the kingdom of God has come to earth in power, and that the living and risen Jesus is present with His people and working through them. BUT IT IS THROUGH THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT THESE MIRACLES ARE PERFORMED. Love in Christ Jesus, Janae |

Healing: Does God Always Heal? 'Probably the main reason we are concerned about the doctrine that it is always God’s will to heal is because we have met too many people, and received too many letters, such as the one from which I now quote: '"I am very interested in your views on Kenneth Hagin and Copeland. I have a blood condition called Hypoglycemia. I have experienced an extreme case of it. I have often wondered why I wasn’t healed instantly and supernaturally. This seems to sometimes make me feel as though I haven’t repented of sin, or committed an awful sin, or even that I didn’t (have) any faith or I have even doubted my salvation." 'To have the audacity to tell one of God’s children that if they are sick it is because of their own sin or lack of faith is to abound in presumptuousness, and be bankrupt in compassion. I’ve known of more than one person who demonstrated this insensitivity until God dealt with him by laying him flat on his back, and when none of his "principles" would work he suddenly developed an empathy of those he had once judged. We never see it portrayed in Scripture that perfect health is the sign of spirituality. To set up such a standard is to divert God’s people from the spiritual standard that Scripture does set forth (such as in 2 Peter 1:5-9). 'Ken Copeland and others teach that we must resist sickness in the same way that we resist sin. This also disturbs us. We’ve seen too many good Christians striving to "believe" their sickness away, and finally collapsing into self-condemnation and utter discouragement over their "lack of faith" or the "sin" in their lives. Most likely, there was a divine purpose for that sickness in their lives, and it would have been a lot easier on them, after they prayed in faith and nothing happened, to have ceased striving and simply rested in the comforting sovereignty of God. 'After being forced to go to this extent to prove that it is not always God’s will to heal, we do want to close on the positive note that we do believe that divine healing is for today. We see no Scriptural basis to doubt that we can expect to see healing take place here and now. Healing should be a regular part of the life of all churches (James 5:14-16). We also believe that faith plays an important part in receiving healing, and that the Church has much to learn about faith, and how to more effectively receive it for healing. We feel that many who saw this need embraced the "healing in the atonement" doctrine because it seemed to offer a more solid basis for faith. Unfortunately, however, this basis is not the Scriptural basis, and therefore it has created more problems than was hoped it would solve. 'If we have no guarantee that it is always God’s will to heal, how then can we pray in faith for healing? In the same way that we pray in faith for other things which Scripture does not specifically promise us. We may pray that the Lord would give us a job at a certain company, but we cannot know for sure if it’s His will that we work there unless He personally assures us of it through His Spirit. Faith is a supernatural gift (Ephesians 2:8); it begins with God. Thus when it is God’s will for a healing (which I believe it often would be), if we are open and receptive to Him, a supernatural assurance from Him will come upon us. The Body of Christ needs to learn to be more receptive and responsive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit working in our faith, so that through a sovereign act of God’s healing will multiply in the land, and the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified. - Elliot Miller (1979)' ____________________ 1Price, Frederick K. Greetings, Kalos! I don't understand why you have brought this into the discussion. Everyone knows, or should realize, that whether a healing occurs or not is entirely up to God. Blessings, Janae |
