1 | claiming things in your life | Is 53:5 | Praise Be To God | 135852
Some people believe that we receive what we speak, so are careful in choosing the words they use so they do not claim things into their lives which would harm them. For example, to say that one has a disease instead of claiming that they are and were healed at Calvary, and claiming that healing into their life. Janae |

2 | claiming things in your life | Is 53:5 | Hank | 135893
Dear Janae - The penitent sinner who by God's grace comes to Christ in faith is forgiven of his sins and reborn in Christ Jesus. His is a spiritual cleansing, not a physical healing. That is what Isaiah is speaking of. See Isaiah 53:3-11. And see also Philippians 2:8. ..... The ideas expressed in your question actually are knock-offs of the "Name it and claim it" mantra that the Word Faithers are so enamored by. This is very bad and dangerous theology having two fatal flaws. First, it presumes to empower man to speak things into existence -- the "name it" aspect of this false teaching. No one in heaven and earth can do that except Almighty God. See Genesis 1. How many times does it say, "and God said...and there was..."? ...... And, second, it brazenly presumes that man has the power over God to force God to perform according to man's wishes. This is the "claim it" portion of the mantra. Both concepts are totally foreign to the teachings of the word of God. --Hank

Matt 11:23- "Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.- I've seen this verse referred to as "say-it faith." Faith that is in our hearts, of course, but that can be exercised by actually saying it out loud. I know that sometimes I have to do this in order to establish my full belief of ALL things God has said and promised according to Scripture. This is the closest thing in the Bible that I have seen that relates to "name it and claim it," though this has a lot more to do with faith, more so than directly naming something and claiming it. Finally, it seems to stand on the notion of saying something outloud that God has "previously or already" showed us in Himself, through His Word. Hope this helped a little! hidden in Christ, Lissa |

4 | claiming things in your life | Is 53:5 | Hank | 135896
Hi,Lissa - Actually the passage is found in Matthew 17:20, not 11:23, and in context it actually has more to do with Jesus' disciples' unbelief than about moving mountains. Reading down from Matthew 17:16, we find a man approaching Jesus with a plea for the healing of his son. He tells Jesus that he brought his son to His disciples who were unable to cure him. Jesus cured the man's son at once. Then Jesus' disciples approached Him privately and inquired, "Why could we not drive it [the demon who possessed the man's son] out? Jesus' answer was, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible." What was Jesus' message? Was he teaching His disciples how to perform stunts, such as moving mountains, for their own amusement or selfish aggrandizement so they could flaunt their wealth, power, and prestige at His expense? God forbid! Faith must be based on God's will and His commands. Expecting to perform some spectacular stunt in order to gratify a personal whim is not faith but presumption. ..... Was He teaching them to name it and claim it? Certainly not! He was, in fact, rebuking them for their puny faith (littleness of faith) and teaching them by the graphic and earthy example of moving mountains how marvelously boundless faith in Him can be. Moreover, Jesus never teaches to have faith in faith. He always teaches to have faith in Him. --Hank

Actually, the correct Scripture is (forgive me) Mark 11:23- "Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him."- I've seen this verse referred to as "say-it faith." First line in my post I said I've seen it referred to as "say-it" faith..not that it is. And I think that this is a Christian website, so I would assume that most here are walking with the Lord and in His Word, leading to request that could only be for the glory of the Lord, seeing as we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. And can God actually move a mountain in our lives or the lives of others?? Ohh, yes! Our God is an Awesome, Powerful God. All things are possible for Him and through Him all things are possible for us that please Him and are according to His will. It pleases Him to bless us that He may be glorified! Moreover, Jesus never teaches to have faith in faith. He always teaches to have faith in Him. Some could say that Christians have faith in the Bible, which we do in a distinct fashion (not getting into that debate now), because it is God's Word, because we have faith in the Bible, does that mean that our faith in Jesus is less than average? Never that! It points to Jesus and His work. Romans 10:17- So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. And moreso 1 John 5:4- For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. Finally Hebrews 11:6- And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. So, have faith in faith, no, never that! But having a faith that is strengthened by "saying" Scripture aloud to stand more firm on the promises of God (I mentioned it in my post, that I do this) is by no way discouraged in the Scripture. Actually, we are told Matt 12:37- "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." And I know that God will not judge those who rightly speak His words in faith. So, finally brother in Christ, I was not trying to offer my answer as to whether "name it and claim it" was right or wrong. I'm not very educated in where the phrase came from or where it originated, I was only trying to give the only example of speaking as a means of faith in the Bible. God Bless and keep you. hidden in Christ, Lissa 1 Peter 5:5- You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. |
