Janae - You can assess my user profile to learn what my belief system and my local church affiliation are. ..... In your post you say, "I disagree. You are not giving God credit for divine healing." How so? Neither in the post to which you refer nor in a single one of the nearly 5,000 posts I've made to this Forum have I ever stated a word that would indicate that I fail to give God all credit for all the good and perfect gifts that come from above, and that most assuredly includes divine healing. My wife and I are members of the prayer chain at the local Baptist congregation where we attend as members. Every day members of this prayer group pray for the healing of the sick and infirmed. Are they all of them for whom we pray restored to physical health and vitality? No, they are not! Some of them die. Do we, can we, through our petitions to God for His healing, empty the hospital beds and put the funeral directors out of work? We do not and we cannot! ..... Then CAN God heal the sick, empty the hospital beds, restore the dead to life. Yes, he can and He does. ...... Did Paul who prayed for release from his thorn in the flesh get what he prayed for? No, he didn't. Was his prayer heard and answered? Yes, it was. The answer was no. ...... In the prayer that our Lord taught His disciples to pray (Matthew 6:9-11) appear these words out of the mouth of Jesus: "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." ....... God is sovereign. He is omnipotent. His will prevails, not ours. The prayer of the redeemed in Christ is heard and it is answered. The answer is always in accordance with God's will. It may be what we ask for or it may not be. From our perspective it may appear that God has not heard simply because His answer may be quite different from what we wished for and expected it would be. ....... You ask, "Do you believe the physcially dead can be raised to life?" Of course I do. Not only do I believe it CAN be done but I believe that it HAS been done. Jesus certainly did it. But do I believe that Christians should pray for the physcial restoration of the dead, no I do not. Do I thereby deny that God has the power to bring the physically dead to life. No I do not. God is omnipotent. ...... The emphasis of the word of God is placed on God's grace whereby He provides the way to be restored from spiritual death to life through faith in his Son. Jesus did not die on the Cross so that we could escape the decay and death of our physical bodies, or so that the physcial body could be brought back to life to dwell for a few more years on this earth of sin and sorrow. Even though a man or woman were raised from the dead to sojourn on earth for a limited number of more years, eventually they will die again. Lazarus did. What God offers through His grace is eternal life with Him in heaven to those who believe on His Son, Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8; John 3:16; Acts 4:12). ...... Please indulge me to relate a personal experience as a father. Some 15 years our son was involved in a car wreck involving a drunken driver. Such was the magnitude of this tragedy that our son died instantly. He was a 20-year-old college student in the prime of life and the peak of health. We were crushed. We could never have imagined that human sorrow could be so deep and and devastating. Did we desperately yearn for David's return to our arms? Oh, how earnestly we did! Did we pray for his restoration to life on this earth? No, we did not. A few years before our Son died he was saved by the grace of God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. As broken as my wife and I were at so great a loss, we were comforted in the knowledge that David knew His Lord in a personal way. Could we as David's parents who loved our son so dearly really ask for him to be snatched out of the arms of Jesus and the bliss of heaven to be returned to the sin, suffering, sorrow and death of a fallen world? Could we really? Should we? ...... [As I write these words tears flow from my eyes as they evoke remembrance of so great a loss as the death my dear son. Yet my heart swells with joy and thanksgiving that because of the death of God's dear Son on the cross, my son lives and will live eternally with His Savior. For him there will be no more death, no more sorrow, no more pain. All glory and praise to the Lamb of God! Amen! ...... It has been 15 years since David died. Do I miss him still? Yes, I do. Would I love to see his smiling face and hear him say, "Hi, Dad." Oh, how I would! But would I want to forego the joys of heaven and return to the sorrows of this world? God knows I would not want that, would never pray for that for my precious son. .....Janae, may the Lord bless you and keep you, may He shine His countenance upon you and give you peace. --Hank | ||||||

Dear Hank, First of all, let me say how sorry I am that you and your wife lost your precious son. I know that must be the most painful experience anyone can have. But, your beloved son is with Jesus now, waiting for his parents and loved ones to be with him. That is the glorious blessed hope we have in Christ Jesus. ALL PRAISE AND GLORY BE UNTO GOD!!! I pray you will see that I am coming to you in love. When I said you were not giving God credit for divine healing, I was referring to the Scripture of Isaiah 53:5, about which you said it was only talking about spiritual healing there. That is where I disagree, for I believe Isaiah 53:5 is also talking about physical healing. This healing refers to salvation with all its benefits, spiritual and physical. Sickness and disease are the result of the fall and Satan's activity in the world. "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil" (I John 3:8). Christ gave gifts of healing to His church (I Cor. 12:9) and commanded His followers to heal the sick as part of their proclamation of the kingdom of God (Luke 9:1-2, 6; 10:1, 8-9, 19). Well, I am going to end now. I pray you have a blessed day. Love in Christ Jesus, Janae |
