Brian Your exactly right, men not making the connection to Psalm 22 have explained what Jesus said using flawed human reasoning. By doing so they made jesus flawed. Thus we know the explanation has to be wrong. When we read Psalm 22 and see Jesus referring to it, in a way that would mean something to those that truly sought God, we see Jesus wasn't questioning His relationship with God but bringing conviction upon those that called for His death. Notice also how He did it at the very end so there was no way for them to interfere when they did make the connection. Jesus knew He had to die. This was an act of love not an act of a lack of faith. WAK I do not think He was necessarily at peace but He was in control. "No takes my life I give it willingly", as the song goes. Don't forget He was 100 percent human besides being 100 percent God, I'm sure the human side was enduring great suffering while the God side felt great rejection. However both God and man were still trying to reach out to man. I believe these last words was yet one last attempt to convince man of His divinity. We must remember we are not saved by His suffering we are saved by his blood poured out for us in the New Covenant. EdB |
