1 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | Pam D | 105709
Samson killed himself,is in Hebrews hall of faith In Judges 16:28 Samson prayed to the Lord to give him strength to get revenge on the Philistines for gouging out his eyes. He said, "Let me die with the Philistines" and apparently God granted his request, because he pushed the pillars with all his might and the house fell on himself and 3000 plus Philistines - killing them and himself. So Samson committed suicide (Judges 16:30) and He is in the Hebrews hall of faith (Heb 11:32) included in the list with "Gideon, Barak, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets". Any thoughts or Comments? Blessings, Pam |

2 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106114
I get real nervous saying you can do thus and such and God will view it as this. Which of us speaks for God? Which of us want to stand for the consequences of our opinions. This is a very dangerous position. You ‘may’ be enabling someone that for no other reason has not committed suicide because of their fear of eternal damnation. I would be real careful what I declared right or wrong in God's eyes that carry such a lasting consequence. The idea that Samson’s committing suicide is comparable to someone jumping out a window is a long stretch. The Philistines were life the long enemies of Israel and they had Israel’s hero in their hands, he took the opportunity to destroy many leading rulers and also give Israel a moral boosting victory. To call this suicide would say that God played the same role as Dr Korvekian (sp) by giving Samson the means to commit suicide, giving his strength back. What Samson did was an act of war much like a soldier diving onto a grenade to save his comrades or a bomber pilot flying a must do one way mission to bomb a target. These aren’t acts of suicide but rather the act of unselfishly giving of your life for the benefit of your friends, loved ones and country. I don’t think we better label Samson as a suicide. Jumping out of a window or slashing your wrist because; you see no hope, no other way, no one cares, your unloved, you want to escape life or want to show the world is far different. My question stands would a Christian ever commit suicide. While I certainly can't speak from experience it seems to me for a person to commit suicide they have had to lost all hope. Can a person without hope really be a Christian? Where is their hope in Christ? A person on the verge of suicide believes there is no one for them, no one cares, no one to love them. Can a Christian knowing the love of Christ feel that way? Many times a person that commits suicide is striking back to get revenge, you'll be sorry type of thing. Is that how a Christian acts? We are to forgive letting God avenge and vindicate us. To me the whole premise of suicide precludes a Christian to begin with. We go back to the question can a saved person loss his salvation? Almost a chicken and egg type thing. The question shouldn’t be can a saved person do thus and such but rather will a saved person ever do thus and such. To me the question is can a truly saved person commit personal suicide? I added the word personal suicide to remove arguments of people giving their life for others. I think the answer to that is no. 3 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | kalos | 106119
Depression, when left untreated, often leads to suicide. Christians are not exempt from diseases and disorders such as the flu, cancer, heart trouble, or diabetes. Are we somehow magically exempt from clinical depression and its consequences? I wouldn't want to post anything that could be construed as license to sin. On the other hand, when someone asks a question about what the Bible teaches on a subject, I must give an honest answer. That is, I need to tell them the truth about what the Bible teaches, and not dilute or obscure it because of what someone might do after hearing the information. For example, there is but one unforgivable sin, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Nowhere in the Bible does it clearly say that suicide cannot be forgiven. To withhold this information because we're afraid of what someone might do when they hear it may be noble, but it is also less than honest. I certainly am not trying to excuse or encourage suicide. Just facing reality. With all respect, kalos |

Greetings Kalos! Excellent response my friend! No matter our opinions on the matter, Scripture simply never addresses suicide at all. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
