Subject: Can one who commits suicide be saved? |
Bible Note: You ask: "Is destroying the living temple of the Holy Spirit in a sense blaspheming the Holy Spirit?" "Whoever SPEAKS a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever SPEAKS against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. (NASB Matthew 12:32, emphasis added) blaspheme 1 : to SPEAK of or address with irreverence intransitive senses : to UTTER blasphemy (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary) (Emphasis added.) Clearly both the very next verse after Matt 12:31 and the meaning of the word "blaspheme" clarify what Jesus meant. Blasphemy specifically pertains to what one speaks or utters. Thus, I do not take "destroying the living temple of the Holy Spirit" to be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. It would be a stretch of the meaning of the word blaspheme as well as the meaning of Matt 12:32 to suppose otherwise. (Matthew 12:31 occurs within the context of Matthew 12:32.) |
