Subject: Can one who commits suicide be saved? |
Bible Note: Depression, when left untreated, often leads to suicide. Christians are not exempt from diseases and disorders such as the flu, cancer, heart trouble, or diabetes. Are we somehow magically exempt from clinical depression and its consequences? I wouldn't want to post anything that could be construed as license to sin. On the other hand, when someone asks a question about what the Bible teaches on a subject, I must give an honest answer. That is, I need to tell them the truth about what the Bible teaches, and not dilute or obscure it because of what someone might do after hearing the information. For example, there is but one unforgivable sin, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Nowhere in the Bible does it clearly say that suicide cannot be forgiven. To withhold this information because we're afraid of what someone might do when they hear it may be noble, but it is also less than honest. I certainly am not trying to excuse or encourage suicide. Just facing reality. With all respect, kalos |
