Bible Note: Jesified You have no understanding of the poverty of the roman troops when you say. “Also, think about Jesus' vesture. In three gospels, it says that the Roman soldiers cast lots for His vesture. Now, if the Roman's did not believe there to be anything special about Jesus, why would they want His vesture? The only logical conclusion that I come to is that it was a pretty nice article of clothing.” Roman soldiers were one step above slave, in fact many were slaves serving for their masters. Clothing of any kind was prize if for no other reason to provide padding to keep the armor from chaffing them. The fact they desired Jesus’ clothing does not prove the clothing was expensive but rather how important cloth was to men that had so little. Can anyone even consider that Jesus who laid down all the riches and glory of heaven to come to this earth to walk among us because of His love for us would be interested in what He was wearing? Doesn’t that teaching sound more like a human that has his sight fixed on the wrong things rather than the love of God? There is nothing on this earth that could measure up to what Jesus was accustomed to. To even suggest that He sought the riches of this world violates the true message of the gospel. EdB |
