Bible Note: Greetings Bible is Right! I am amazed at the number of people who get on the forum and try to make baptism a requirement for salvation. You wrote: "Some people would say that a person is saved without being baptized. But from the day of Pentecost until now the bible would not agree with them." Yet, when Paul was asked what a person must do to be saved, he said: "...‘‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”" Acts 16:31. Other Scriptures make the same point. 1) John 1:12 - "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—" 2) John 3:15 - " that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16 ‘‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 3) John 3:18 - "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." 4) John 3:36 - "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.”" 5) John 5:25 - "‘‘I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." 6) John 6:29 - "Jesus answered, ‘‘The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” " 7) John 6:35 - "Then Jesus declared, ‘‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." 8) John 6:40 - "For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”" 9) John 6:47 - "I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life." 10) Acts 10:43 - "All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”" 11) Acts 13:39 - "Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses." 12) Romans 1:16 - "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile." 13) Rom. 3:22 - "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference," 14) Rom. 10:9 - "That if you confess with your mouth, ‘‘Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." And, we could go on and on. However, all of these verses are clear that the only requirement for salvation is faith. An excellent example is the believers in Acts 10, who were filled with the Holy Spirit (thus saved), before they were baptized. So, the Bible commands us to be baptized, just as it commands us to: love one another, pray for one another, assemble together, be witnesses, ect.... However, none of these 'works' save us. They are things we do because we are saved, not thing which save us. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
