1 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | Morant61 | 51066
Greetings Raven! You wrote: "So basically what you are saying is God owes it to us to save us?" I don't know how you came to that conclusion! :-) I'm the one who has been arguing for salvation through Grace! Grace is unmerited favor - God saves because of His love for us, not because we can earn His favor. You also wrote: "My friend I am not trying to twist your words but you make it sound like before you do anything for the Lord He's going to have to save you first." That is exactly what I and Eph. 2:8-9 are both saying. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hello Tim, So then you agree with the statement I made, "before you do anything for the Lord He's going to have to save you first." Is this correct? If so then please tell me so I will know what to be looking for, what sign did you receive to let you know that you have been saved? Raven |

3 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | Morant61 | 51122
Greetings Raven! I would word the statement a little differently: "The Lord has to save us before we CAN do anything for Him!" I'm not sure what you mean by 'sign'. I have the promise of Scripture that if I call upon the Lord, I will be saved. I never needed a sign to know that I had been saved - God's promise was sufficent. After all, He proved His love for me on the cross. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 51140
Hello Tim, You wrote; "I have the promise of Scripture that if I call upon the Lord, I will be saved." I Never Knew You (5) 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, BUT HE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER in heaven. 22Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' We see here that many will call upon the Lord and still be lost! You have to do somthing to be able to stand justified before the Lord! Read on Build on the Rock (6) 24 "Therefore WHOEVER HEARS these sayings of Mine, AND DOES THEM, I will liken him to a WISE MAN who built his house on the rock: 25and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; AND IT DID NOT FALL, for it was founded on the rock. 26"But EVERYONE WHO HEARS these sayings of Mine, AND DOES NOT DO THEM, will be like a FOOLISH MAN who built his house on the sand: 27and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. AND GREAT WAS ITS FALL." Ther were two men here, one a wise man and the other a foolish man. If the Lord does all the pick and choosing then doesn't this seem like a cheap shot to call a person foolish when he has no choice? And answer me this then, does the Lord have to save you before you call on the name of the Lord? Remember the ones above they called but were lost! Raven |

5 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | Morant61 | 51150
Greetings Raven! Allow me to be blunt my friend! You are ignoring the plain statements of Scripture and reading things into the rest of Scripture. Why do I say this? Consider the two passages you quote. 1) Mt. 6:24-27 says that the man who does them will be LIKE a wise man. No where does this passage say that one must do these thing in order to be saved. 2) Mt. 6:21-23 says that there will be many who say...., but it never says that they ever called upon the Lord. You wrote: "You have to do somthing to be able to stand justified before the Lord!" This is exactly the opposite of what Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 4, Galatians, ect..., all say. There is nothing that you can do to stand justified before the Lord. He did all that could or needed to be done when He died on the cross. I really don't understand why this concept is so hard to grasp! p.s. - Concerning the picking and choosing, you will have to battle that one out with Joe - I'm not a calvinist! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

6 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | Hank | 51160
Tim, does it really surprise you that members of a denomination that is impudent enough to proclaim itself the only true church (and all other communions as merely man-made organizations) would also have the temerity to assert that we must do something to earn salvation? In their world of doctrinal blunders, grace is insufficent, faith alone is inadequate, and man must do something to assist in his salvation, because Christ's blood alone can't atone for sin unless it is supplemented by baptismal water. --Hank
