Greetings, Raven I just have one question on the "need" for water baptism in the context of salvation: When was the thief on the cross baptized? The one Jesus told would be with Him in Paradise? I eagerly await your answer. 2nd Samuel 22 |

When did Jesus give the great commission? When did Peter preach the first great sermon on the death, burial and resurrection of the Christ? Did the thief obey the gospel? Did the thief know about the resurrection of Jesus? Does the thief matter when we are told we must hear the gospel of Jesus Christ in order to be saved! You can run, but you can't hide from the truth! When will you have the oportunity to hang on the cross with Jesus so he can tell you what he told the thief? Baptism is important to God, or else He would not have told Jesus to tell us to do it! Have you ever considered that?

If I answer 'yes or no' the thief did not know about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that's something people today must know! So the real question is does it matter what the thief recieved or did not recieve? The bible doesn't say weather or not he was baptized! |

Thank you, srbaegon!! And Greetings, Grace and Truth! You wrote: "The bible doesn't say weather or not he[the thief] was baptized!" But, by your own belief, you MUST ASSUME he was baptized, in order for him to be in Paradise with Jesus. That being said, you are assuming something which is not written(or even implied) in Scripture. And to do that, you must add to the Perfect Word of God. And are we allowed to add to the Word of God? May the Grace of our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

What you must understand is there is no history of the thief on the cross, that's why I used the "yes or no" and for you to assume for me you are the one adding to God's word, and if you go back and read my statement you will note that I said "it doesn't matter what the thief did" but it matters what we are to do and that's hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, and believe and obey it! 2nd Samuel 22! |

Question I would like to ask...when was the thief forgiven? Before or after Christ's death? If it was BEFORE...then how is it that forgiveness of the thief applies to us who live AFTER Christ's death? Through HIM, TOFT |

TOFT, can you explain what the time frame in your scenario has to do with Christ's forgiveness? --Hank

Christ forgave the thief under the OLD law...we are under the NEW law now...Jesus' NEW testament hadn't begun until He had died...because with a new testament there is a nessecity of the death of a Testator, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 9:16-22). We CANNOT apply the thief on the cross on the basis of salvation. He was forgiven under the OLD law, not the NEW. The thief on the cross...is a good example of humbleness and Jesus' power on earth to forgive. But it doesn't apply to us, because Christ is NOT on the earth and His NEW law is in effect. Hope that helps to explain. Please read the following site for more details: http://www.tftw.org/Tracts/saved_thief.html Through HIM, TOFT |

Greetings Toft! Two points if I may my friend! 1) I thought that the New Testament taught that no one could be saved under Law (Rom. 8:3 among many others). So, how could the thief's salvation differ from ours? 2) Secondly, how is the New way better if it requires both works and repentance, while the Old way only required repentance? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
