Hello Justme, Thank you for your comments. I would like to make a point though about your suggestion. I myself am a member of the Church of Christ and would by no means approve of another church or organization being a guide to this young lady. Though she has every right to make up her own mind as to how she plans to spend the rest of her eternity I would prefer that she knew all the bible has to say instead of those organizations that pick and choose. That would be like throwing the sheep to the wolves. I ask you with your Baptist background would send someone to a different faith where they would learn a different belief system? Of course not. Please understand that I am not trying to be ugly about this with you, I just want you and the others that read this to know where I stand. Jesus said; Matthew 7 The Narrow Way (1) 13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14Because[1] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. You Will Know Them by Their Fruits (2) 15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. If I ask you who was the founder of your church who would you say that would be? If you ask me I could only give one answer and that would be Jesus Christ because He said, "I will build My church". No denomination can say that truthfully, because all denomiations add or subtract from the bible according to the traditions of men. Mark 7 7And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. The bible teaches that there is only one. Ephesians 4 4There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you[1] all. This is something that many can read, but seem to overlook and dismiss it. They also overlook, 1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. Galatians 1 Only One Gospel 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed And lastly,Romans 16:17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. 18For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus[1] Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. Please try to research the things that I have said and set your feelings aside. Read what the bible says and do that, not what is contrary to the Word of God. I respect your viewpoint and I would hope that you will do the same for me. Your friend, Raven |

RAVEN: You wrote: 'If I ask you who was the founder of your church who would you say that would be? If you ask me I could only give one answer and that would be Jesus Christ because He said, "I will build My church".' That would be the answer that I would give as well for "my church." Of course, looking at it another way, I could point to Barton Stone and Alexander Campbell as key founders (or "restorers," as you prabably like to view it) of the Churches of Christ, couldn't I? You also wrote: "No denomination can say that truthfully, because all denomiations add or subtract from the bible according to the traditions of men." 1. How do you define a "denomination," and how do the Churches of Christ not constitute a "denomination"? In other words, what makes a denomination a denomination? I have heard the "evils of denominationalism" promoted for some time by those who are Church of Christ, and I would love to hear from the horses mouth exactly how they distinguish between the Chruches of Christ and a "denomination." 2. Please explain in more detail how your church is free from the possibility of doctrinal error simply because it is not (at least the way you see it) part of a denomination? There may have been no denominations in the first-century church, but we see the writings of the apostles battling false teaching left and right. --Joe! |

You wrote; There may have been no denominations in the first-century church, but we see the writings of the apostles battling false teaching left and right. This statement that you made pretty much sums up the answer that the church of Christ trys to live and grow by. The writings in the bible by the Apostles and prophets are our only guide. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. To put it plainly if the church of Christ that I know to be the true church of God that we have today is not the true church, then just by the standards set forth in the bible then we have lost the church and the whole of humanity and all are going to Hell. To know a denomination you can go to the scriptures and see if what they practice is in accordance with the New Testament. For instance, claping hands, musical instruments, chiors, solo's sung, women preachers, a single pastor for a preacher and deacons for him to rule over, do not teach water baptism for salvation, do not observe the Lord's Supper as the Apostles did on the first day of the week and so on..... I hope this has help your understanding of the churches of Christ. Just as you stated we try to fight false teaching and doctrine today just as we did then. Your friend, Raven |

I would just like to add this. What denomination did Christ Jesus claim to be of? What did Paul say about denominationalism in 1 Cor. 10-17? Did he approve of it? |

Good note!! Very good indeed!! Of course Jesus Christ was of no denomination. He infact was the chief cornerstone on which the church stands! Ephesians 2 Christ Our Cornerstone 19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, Raven |
