1 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Hank | 67701
My dear inmyheart, I have no question regarding my support of Joe's and Ed's exegeses of the passage pertaining to Epaphroditus' illness: Both of these gentlemen have demonstrated their high view of Scripture, on this and on many other threads, through clear and unimpeachable evidence that they are committed to speaking where the Bible speaks and to remain silent where the Bible is silent. It is my firm conviction that our Lord would be better served were all professing Christians as committed to and respectful of the word of God as they. And please believe me, I don't intend this remark to be a personal affront to you or to anyone else. I merely cite these two users here as examples. There are many other fine examples on this forum whom I would just as readily cite. Grace to you. --Hank
2 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | inmyheart | 67704
Hank-- That may very well be true what you stated, and both of the gentlemen that you speak of may have demonstrated in the past the knowledge and wisdom of God Word. However, when I read a statement like the one below, well it's not a true or correct statement. "Maybe Paul didn;t instruct him in the faith well enough (Philippians 2:25-27)." (from Joe) I gave my account as to why this person(Epaphroditus) suffered from his sickness with scripture. Thanks for your reply, I'm here to study, to receive and give. If I want to be attacked, well what can I say, it's only a post away. But be of good cheer, God loves us. God bless |

3 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Hank | 67752
inmyheart: Joe was using irony in the segment of his post that you cited: "Maybe Paul didn't instruct him in the faith well enough (Philippians 2:25-27)." Irony is a literary device in which what is being said is opposite from the meaning intended. It is used for effect. Some of the Bible writers used irony, Shakespeare used irony, and almost all discerning writers and speakers have used it at one time or another. I read that what Joe is really saying is that he has confidence that the apostle Paul did indeed thoroughly instruct Epaphroditus in the faith. Knowing Joe and reading him in context leads me to no other conclusion. Should I be wrong, I think Joe will be willing to correct my error of judgment. --Hank
