Life begins at baptism. We are dead until we are born of the Spirit through baptism. Read all of John 3. Notice Nicodemus came to Jesus and said we know who you are. They knew he was the Christ by the signs that followed him. But even though Nicodemus knew who he was he asked this question, "What must I do to enter he kingom of God?" Jesus said, you must be born again. Nicodemus aske how and Jesus said that which is born of the flesh is flesh (physical birth) and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. He said unless one is born of the water and the Spirt he canot enter the kingdom of God. Whether we are Jew or gentile we are born into a world of sin (breaking the law of God which is the "Ten Commandments". We need to cofess that we have sinned and broke God's commandments, that's why we need a saviour because the punishment for sin (breaking the law) is death (seperation from God eternally.) Now God the Father sent his Son Jesus Christ to die that we may have life eternal in Him. When we are baptized we are dying to our old self and also confessing Jesus before men. Look at all the examples in Acts starting with Pentecost. Notice the three thousand that believed were baptized that day and added to the number. continue to read through the book of Acts and you will realize everyone who believed was baptized immediately and so should we be. |

Tell that to the thief who died on the cross w/Jesus! Come on, be real, Life starts when you confess your sins and ask Jesus into your life as Lord and Savior. The day I invited Jesus into my life, He added my name into the book of Life, not the book of Baptism! God Bless, yes I'm baptized! :) |

All I know is what I read in my bible. Nicodemus knew who Jesus was and Jesus told him he must be born again (baptized) to enter the kingdom of God. When John the Baptist came preaching repent of your sins and be baptized and those who believe in the gospel of Christ did so. In John 3:14 gives the example And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up. 15 that whoever believes (start in Matthew and read what every person who believed did, they were baptized immediately) may in him have eternal life. Read Numbers 21:6 it explains what JOhn 3:14 means. Notice that IF they believed they would look up to the bronze serpent (reprented the righteousness of Christ on a cross)and IF they didn't believe and look up they died. Look in the book of Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the HOly Spriit. 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and there were added that day about three thousand souls. Continue to read one example after another in the book of Acts. The word "believe" is an action word. And if you look closely you will see the verse John 3:16 is quoted out of context. This is not just saying I believe Jesus is the Son of God, or I except Jesus as my Lord and Savior, the example is very clear. If you believe you will repent of your sins (breaking the Ten Commandments of God) and be baptized into the kingdom of God. You will be born of the Spirit.

Praise God for your faithfulness in studying the Word of God. John 3:5 Jesus responds to Nicodemus question from verse 4, Jesus reply to him shatters the Jewish assuption that their racial identity (old birth) assured them a place in God's Kingdom. The Jews were looking for the Messiah to bring in a new world in which Jews would be pre-eminet. But Jesus came to bring new life, in which "HE" would be preeminent. Yes, I believe that we should be obident to God's command to be baptized, to bury that old nature to walk anew in the Spirit, for we walk by faith and not by sight. Is it a requirement to be baptized to be saved? No. Should you be obident to God and be baptized, yes. God Bless |

It is not baptism that saves us it's our faith in God's grace that he sent his Son Jesus to save us from the pentalty of death. Mark 16:16 HE WHO HAS BELIEVED AND HS BEEN BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED.

rferg, first-time greetings to you! A pedantic pedagogue lurks among us and it is, alas, I. You state, "It is not baptism that saves us..." Agreed. You continue, "...it's our faith in God's grace that he sent his Son Jesus to save us from the penalty of death." Disagree. It is not our faith in God's grace that saves. The proper sequence of thought is this: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God" [Eph.2:8] The faith that saves, you see, is faith in Jesus Christ, the person; not faith in grace, the thing. --Hank
