1 | What if you don't obey that command? | Rom 6:4 | mbooker | 56695 | ||
boy oh boy!! this is some subject!! I know a man who visited our church and he was upset because the pastor did not immediately water baptize those that came forward to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. At our church, baptism is done on the 3rd Sunday. I make the distinction of 'water' baptism because so far in scripture I have seen 3 different agents used in baptism. water: John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; John 1:26 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Matt 3:11 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Luke 3:16 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. John 1:33 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Acts 1:5 Holy Ghost/fire: I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Matt 3:11 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Luke 3:16 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. John 1:33 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Acts 1:5 the body of Christ: For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1 Cor 12:13 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Gal 3:27 Having said all that :) My question(s)/comment(s) are these: I will not use a hypothetical. I am going to use myself. I came forward and accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour but I was not immediately baptized. It was a couple of weeks later (that 3rd Sunday evening at 6 pm :) ). Now, given my case, since I was not water baptized immediately after making my confession, was I being disobedient to God? If God commands that after we believe, we get baptized immediately, was my getting water baptized weeks later done in vain? btw, I am ASSURED of my salvation and KNOW without a doubt that I am born from above, so my post is simply to get feed back on the questions that popped in my head after reading through this thread. I also hope that 'we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ' Abba Father bless each and every one of you... |

Hi Mbooker! I think this is the first time we have spoken. I love the loving spirit you have that comes out so strong in your post! I, as you, also like to make the distinction between water baptism and the other two scriptural aspects of baptism. I was saved and received water baptism in a church that baptized folks when they joined the church. I think it was several weeks before I was baptized, because until I came forward for church membership, I was not even a “candidate” for water baptism. The way I see things now, that seems to be wrong, as I see water baptism and church membership as two different issues. I see nothing wrong with water baptism being a requirement for church membership, but I have a big problem with church membership being a requirement for a born again believer being baptized in water because they have already been baptized into the body of Christ anyway (1Co 12:13). God bless! retxar |
