1 | Is God somehow responsible? | Rom 1:20 | Hank | 70257
John Reformed: The problem has nothing to do with hard feelings, but it has everything to do with the never-ceasing promotion and argumentation of Calvinism and the debates that stem from the excessive and continued pushing of this theological philosophy on the forum. Do you not realize that no other issue, no other topic, no other points of disagreement have been aired with nearly the frequency or intensity on this forum as the pro-Calvinist arguments? Over and over the Calvinist arguments have been expounded and compounded, inspected and dissected, inflected and interjected, conjugated and cogitated, on this forum: what is there left to be said that hasn't been said a dozen times over? We have come to the point on this forum -- we have passed the point -- where these debates are no longer of any effect. We are sawing sawdust. Come forth, if you can, with a sound, cogent reason why their continuance is justified. --Hank
2 | Is God somehow responsible? | Rom 1:20 | John Reformed | 70267
Dear Hank, "Come forth, if you can, with a sound, cogent reason why their continuance is justified." Because I believe that they present (as far as human writing can) an accurate and systematic means of biblical interpretation. If I, or anyone else, were presenting these claims without a sound scriptural basis, then I would agree that it should cease. But that is not the case. If it were only calvinists that initiated all of of these questions or notes, you may have a point. But this is not the case. If calvinism was a narrow theology that touched on a few minor doctrines, then, perhaps, it may be possible to engage in discussion without being seriously hampered. But calvinism is a theology that has existed within christian faith for 500 years and was believed as sound teaching by the majority of the church for hundreds of years after the Reformation. There are few doctrines that are uninformed by Calvinism (Reformed Theology). If it were a crack-pot doctrine that only the naive or ignorant would believe, you might have a case. But, it has been believed and taught by some of the greatest theologians and preachers that God has raised up since the first century. You may as well ask a reformed person to stop talking about the bible itself as to ask him to leave his theology outside the forum. It's impossible. I am happy to hear you bear no hard feelings toward me personly. It is good for brothers to live in peace. I suggest we elimenate the rhetoric and concentrate on digging for gold that does not perish. Peace, John Reformed |
