1 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106125
Kalos What does the Bible teach on Suicide? While I will give you no where in the Bible does it say suicide can not be forgiven it also does not say suicide can be forgiven. That is my point. We just don't know the answer to that question. As for a person that is sick or severely depressed that commits suicide I don't know the answer but I trust God enough to know He is just and if that person did something without being able to completely comprehend the consequence I expect God will take that into consideration. However neither you not I can speak for God on this issue. The question then remains can a true Christian commit personal suicide. I think not! EdB |

2 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | kalos | 106133
If suicide cannot be forgiven, then Christ didn't know what he was talking about when he said in Matthew 12:31, "EVERY sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men" (except the sin of blasphemy against the Spirit).
3 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106139
Unless suicide itself is a form of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Unless one must ask forgiveness of sin. Unless one must believe in Christ for the forgiveness of sin. Unless one must repent. Unless true salvation requires a relationship with Christ that would preclude the desire or willingness to commit suicide. Jesus' statement implies any sin except the Blaspheming of the Holy Spirit can be forgiven. Why? Because Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is basically dening the power of the Holy Spirit. What is suicide? Is it not saying there is nothing in heaven and earth that can save me from this situation? Including the Holy Spirit! Sorry my friend you can never convince me that a truly saved person could commit suicide. How God judges them is another question one that I don't know the answer too. EdB |

4 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | kalos | 106153
Context: But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons." (NASB Matthew 12:24 ) According to the context, basically, blaspheming the Holy Spirit is NOT merely denying the power of the Holy Spirit. Rather this, the unpardonable sin, is ascribing to Satan the works of the Holy Spirit. Context: "Whoever SPEAKS a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever SPEAKS against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. (NASB Matthew 12:32, emphasis added) blaspheme 1 : to SPEAK of or address with irreverence intransitive senses : to UTTER blasphemy (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary) (Emphasis added.) Clearly both the context in which verse 31 appears and the meaning of the word "blaspheme" clarify what Jesus meant. Blasphemy specifically involves speaking or uttering. Thus, I do not take "destroying the living temple of the Holy Spirit" to be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. It would be a stretch of the meaning of the word blaspheme as well as the meaning of Matt 12:32 to suppose otherwise. (Matthew 12:31 occurs within the context of Matthew 12:32.) |

5 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106164
What could be more blasphemous than destroying the very dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. It is not the words we speak but the condition of our heart that is the problem. Pharisees claimed to love God yet their heart loved their position and from the abundance of their heart came what they spoke from their lips. Blasphemy is more than words it is the heart's condition. If the heart is right the words will be right if the heart is wrong the words will be wrong. Let us not nit pick blasphemy the point once again is if we are in right relationship with Christ we will never commit suicide. EdB |
