1 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106125
Kalos What does the Bible teach on Suicide? While I will give you no where in the Bible does it say suicide can not be forgiven it also does not say suicide can be forgiven. That is my point. We just don't know the answer to that question. As for a person that is sick or severely depressed that commits suicide I don't know the answer but I trust God enough to know He is just and if that person did something without being able to completely comprehend the consequence I expect God will take that into consideration. However neither you not I can speak for God on this issue. The question then remains can a true Christian commit personal suicide. I think not! EdB |

Greetings EdB! With all due respect my friend, are you then saying that a true Christian cannot be sick or depressed? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106138
No Tim I'm not. Before we go much further on the sickness issue I think everyone on this forum would agree that a person has to have mental instability to kill another person. Whether that instability comes from jealousy, anger, rage, greed, sickness or whatever it requires some inbalance to take a life. Let's not take this discussion to the point of trying to legally define an sane with insane act. Aside from a physical condition that would effect normal thinking I'm saying suicide is an act far different than any other sin. The last act a person that commits suicide does is in direct rebellion to God. I think it safe to say at that point their heart and spirit is in opposition to God. My question can that be the state of a truly saved person? We can go into all kinds of theological discussion here on sin and forgiveness of sin, does it or does not require a contrite heart, does it require confession of sin, repentance, belief and etc. We can take this discussion even further by examining what exactly constitutes salvation. Does praying the prayer of salvation save or is a change of heart also required. Can I be saved and live in rebellion to God. Is just belief enough? Then we can discuss the unforgivable sin. The only sin that can’t be forgiven is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Is destroying the living temple of the Holy Spirit in a sense blaspheming the Holy Spirit? Can a Christian that is in communion with Christ having the Holy Spirit dwelling within them destroy the very inhabitance of that Holy Spirit? Can a saved person, be in opposition to God to the such a high degree that suicide would require? EdB |

4 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | Morant61 | 106142
Greetings EdB! Where does Scripture say that suicide is a sin? This is why I concur with Kalos' point! Scripture simply never mentions it at all. It does not say that it is a sin. It does not say that it cannot be forgiven if it is a sin. It doesn't address questions of mental health. It simply doesn't mention it at all. :-) I would tend to agree with your earlier statement though my friend, that God will do what is right! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

5 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106144
Tim The sin of suicide is to me is the fact that you did not have a saving relationship with Christ. Had you had such a relationship it would be impossible to suicide to begin with. Suicide is an act of desperation, done by desperate and hopeless people that is not a description of a Christian. If you look at my comments coming into this thread I said the question should not be can a person committing suicide be forgiven. I said the question really is, “would a saved person commit suicide.” I say no! EdB |

6 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | Morant61 | 106145
Greetings EdB! Not to keep beating a dead horse my friend, but where does Scripture say this? :-) Scripture doesn't say anything about suicide at all, let alone whether or not a Christian can do it or not. I would agree with you to the extent that I don't personally believe that a 'sane' Christian would commit suicide, but I can see someone suffering from a chemical imbalance doing so. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

7 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | EdB | 106148
Tim No one is going to burn in the Lake of Fire for murder, adultery, bank robbery, child abuse. They are going to the Lake because they did not have a saving relationship with Christ Rev 20:15. My contention is once again short of a chemical imbalance a person can not have a saving relationship with Christ and commit suicide. If we are in a saving relationship our trust is in Christ not our own ability to remove us from the situation that drives us to the brink of suicide. EdB |
