1 | Isn't this verse saying that we rise to | Rom 6:4 | The Bible is Right | 56199
If the text was not dealing with the time we were converted to Christ, it would not use the frase "Newness of life" nor would Paul use "baptism" if it were not connected with one becoming a christian, having been born again, but rather "know ye not that so many of us as have believed, or has excepted Christ and walk in newness of life.. but that's not what Paul says here in this text. That's why I said the text gives the answer itself, and Paul is dealing with "walking in newness of life", at the point of conversion, verse 6 make it even more clearer by speaking about our "old man" is crucified with Christ. Paul also use "us" and "We" in the context of what he is saying, himself included. "May I respectfully disagree with the following statement?" Yes you may respectfully disagree with the statement, but it is clear that newness of life starts when you come up out of the watery grave of baptism. Acts 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. A newness of life when came up out of the water. Acts 16:32-34 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, strightway. 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. They to were walking in newness of life. And I could go on and on, but that should be enough for now. Again if Paul was not talking about one's conversion he would not have use baptism! The dead man being buried and raised to walk in newness of life. John 3:5 born of the water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. |

2 | Isn't this verse saying that we rise to | Rom 6:4 | Morant61 | 56201
Greetings the Bible is Right! The only problem with the verses you used in your last post is that none of them actually use the phrase 'newness of life'. :-) Another point that I forgot to mention before is that the verb 'may walk' is an Aorist, Subjective verb. Thus, it describes possible action, but not necessary action. So, those who have been buried with Christ MAY walk in newness of life. So, this verse can't be saying that baptism saves because the verb used does not indicate that baptism produces new life. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | Isn't this verse saying that we rise to | Rom 6:4 | The Bible is Right | 56203
The verses use were about conversions in the book of Acts and that is nothing but walking in newness of life. "So, those who have been buried with Christ MAY walk in newness of life. So, this verse can't be saying that baptism saves because the verb used does not indicate that baptism produces new life." Can those who have "NOT" been buried with Christ, walk in newness of life? Some people would say yes! And some would say no! I would say no, they cannot walk in newness of life! |

4 | Isn't this verse saying that we rise to | Rom 6:4 | Morant61 | 56204
Greetings the Bible is Right! Can those who have not been baptized walk in newness of life? Yes! Can those who have not been saved walk in newness of life? No! However, notice that even those who have been 'buried with Christ' can still not walk in newness of life - which is the reason for this passage of Scripture. Believers are being commanded to live out their salvation and no longer be slaves to sin. The important point for this discussion is what does the Bible say saves us. Consider the following: 1) Acts 2:21 - "And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’" 2) Acts 16:30 - "He then brought them out and asked, ‘‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They replied, ‘‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”" 3) Rom. 10:9 - "That if you confess with your mouth, ‘‘Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." 4) Rom. 10:13 - "for, ‘‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”" 5) Eph. 2:5 - " made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved." 6) Eph. 2:8 - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast." 7) 2 Tim. 1:9 - "who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time," 8) Heb. 10:39 - "But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved." The reason I keep posting on this topic is because I want to make sure that everyone who reads these posts on this forum know that there is nothing that we can do nor nothing that we must do to be saved except to believe. Christ accomplished it all for us on the cross. My salvation, nor my walk in Christ, are dependent upon my efforts or my works, but entirely upon Christ's work on the cross. This is the good news of the Gospel. Yet, there are still many, who like the Judaizers, want to add works to our salvation. Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 4, Gal. 2, and many more, are all perfectly clear that we do not need to do anything to be saved. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
