1 | What if you don't obey that command? | Rom 6:4 | Hank | 56559
Dear "The Bible Is Right" -- So even if you could show that believers were baptized five minutes after they became believers, what would you have proved? You would have proved that regenerate believers were prompt to obey the commandment to be baptized. That's all you would have proved. You most assuredly would not have proved that salvation is effected by water baptism. --Hank

That was not my intention to prove anything, I just ask a question. Why did they get baptized the same hour they believed? I stated that people take baptism into Christ to lightly: And may we need to find out more about it than we know. My personal belief is that I believe that baptism is just as important as confessing the name of Jesus Christ, Acts 8:36,37 here it saids: And as they went on their way: and they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. I don't know about you, but when I read that story of the eunuch's conversion I rejoice, because even in the desert God will make a way. It let me know the type of preaching Philip did also, because the eunuch is the one who brought up water after being taught, and he ask Philip the question, See, here is water, What doth hinder me to be baptized? Philip answered and said, If you believe with all your heart you may! The eunuch said I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, then Philip baptized him immediately after hearing that confession. I know most people don't believe that that had anything to do with salvation but I believe it did. And I'm trying to understand why you don't believe what happened here. |

The Bible Is Right: Yes, I know, I said before I was going to cease posting on this thread because it was going nowhere. But I must take you to task on this: You wrote, "And I'm trying to understand why you don't believe what happened here." This was in reference to Phillip's baptism of the eunuch. NOW HEAR THIS: I never ever mentioned Phillip and the eunuch in any of my responses to you! So where did you get the idea that I didn't believe what the passage said? Did you get it from the same place you got your idea that every believer in apostolic times was baptized within the hour he came to believe? --Hank

I got it from the same bible we all read. My post was to Makarios, and you entered on your own, and I was glad that you and I had a chance to disguss this issue. There are nine cases of conversions in the book of Acts and I resreached them all, and in every case they were baptized in the same hour or immediately after being taught. |

So it says in "the same Bible we all read" that Hank doesn't believe the passage about Phillip and the eunuch? How positively remarkable! Imagine me, living all these years and never knowing I was mentioned by name in Scripture. Wow! I'm famous! I'm famous! Wow! --Hank

That was a misunderstanding on my part, I guess I didn't understand the question. I have read many of your post and I think you are a very wise man of the word of God, and I look forward to learning more from you and others on this forum. |

Dear "The Bible Is Right" -- Thank you kindly, and you are indeed welcome on this forum. As a battered old forum veteran, may I please proffer a hint or two for your consideration as a user? Unless you are sure of your facts, ask a question about your topic in lieu of an answer. When someone asks you a question concerning something you have said, answer them as directly as you can; don't ignore their questions or answer a question with a question. Research your material and be sure it is firmly grounded in Scripture. It if is not, don't post it. Don't attempt to answer a question if, in fact, you really don't know the answer. If you are shown to be in error, accept it, admit it, and be thankful to him who shed light on Scripture for you; he has done you an immense favor, not an injusice or a rebuff. These hints, friend, are not meant to be taken in the spirit that I'm trying to preach to you or reprimand you. They are simply some little things that I've discovered through much use of the forum that have helped me and may be of help to you and other new users also. At least, that's my aim and my hope. Cordially, --Hank

"or answer a question with a question." I learned that from Jesus. Matt 21:24,25. lol. But thank you for your advice, I will do my best and ask the Lord to handle the rest. |

Yes, in this instance, Jesus did, in a certain sense, answer a question with a question. But who among us has the consummate skill, grace, and wisdom to do half so well as the Master? I think it the safer practice for us on the forum to answer questions with answers, but even then, only if we know the answers -- and know that we know them :-) --Hank
