Bible Note: Hi Russ, I have read numerous translations of the Bible and the salvation message is relatively clear in all of them. When it comes to other doctrines in the Word, or deeper things, some are misleading and are bad translations. When it comes to conveying the message of Christ to average English speaking people or the Gospel, the Koine English, or common English, of the New Living Translation is hard to beat but there are places in that translation that miss the meaning, of what the Koine Greek actually says. Here is an example of my favorite verses of Scripture. 1 John 5:10-13 (KJV) He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. [11] And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. [12] He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. [13] These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:10-13 (NLT) All who believe in the Son of God know that this is true. Those who don't believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don't believe what God has testified about his Son. [11] And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. [12] So whoever has God's Son has life; whoever does not have his Son does not have life. [13] I write this to you who believe in the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. These verses are very precious to me, CDBJ |
