Bible Question:
Would anyone suggest, or advise someone to purchase a NIV bible, what are some of your thoughts on it? Realible, accurate, devotional?. Love in Christ Jackson Gal.6:14 |
Bible Answer: I've found a much better approach is to develop a library containing several versions of the Bible. The NIV is pretty good but in my opinion, almost all the versions have one or two minor discrepencies including the original King James. I've found the NKJ to be a good version. Just remember, they're all translated by man and thus we have human error. But usually the defects are minor and don't mess up God's plan of salvation. They usually involve other controversial topics like the Mary, mother of Jesus and her virginity. Anyway, with this library of several versions, it's good to compare the versions on a particular passage or topic. If you're really serious about studying God's word, get a large concordance like Strong's and a Greek lexicon. Then you can go back to original Greek meaning. God bless in your study and perseverance. |
