What surprises me is the time several of you have spent debating the various translations and criticising those who have the good sense to use the King James Bible to read, study and memorise God's Holy Word. If you look back in history, you will come to appreciate that many of God's Saints have used the King James Bible in missionary and saving souls. Maybe if you spent more time reading God's Word instead of finding fault with it, you will come to realise, as did George Muller,Spurgeon,George Whitefield and many other God Fearing men that our Holy God does not LIE (Titus 1:2). I take very strong exception to the statement... "The King James Onlyists are an ODD BUNCH and they have founded what is essentially a cult which, like all cults, SEEMS to follow flawless reasoning that leads to a perfectly logical conclusion, but its premise is wrong." I have read several translations, particularly when I was still a babe in Christ, but in my opinion the KJV is for the mature in Christ. When I first came to use this Forum I believed it was a good opportunity for getting to know other believers. Now I have changed my mind and will spend my time usefully in the study of God's Word. May God Guide you in His Truth, Ken John. |

Greetings Ken John! My friend, no one here would critize anyone for reading or using the KJV. If that is your choice, I have no problem with it whatsoever. What I would critize is your telling others that the KJV is the only translation which is the Word of God. That position is simply unsupportable for many reasons. 1) The KJV is just a translation. It is not the Word of God. It didn't drop out of Heaven complete. 2) The KJV has been revised many times over the years. Did God make mistakes the first few times? ;-) 3) The KJV did not have many manuscripts for support. The KJV is an excellent translation. But, it is only a translation my friend. I actually study from the Greek text, not from the translations. So, I am very much aware that all of the translation occasionally miss the boat. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Gentlemen, It would seem that there have been some misunderstandings concerning the various translations of the bible. I am sorry if I have trodden on a few toes. I do not wish to be the cause of unhappiness or disputes. The point I was trying to make (probably badly it would seem by the reaction from all of you)is that God is using the King James Version to speak to me more than any other translation. I came to Christ reading the NIV but, as I grew in Him, I found errors in that translation so turned to the KJV. "How sweet are thy Words unto my taste!yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" Psalm 119:103. As a mature Christian, I am well aware of the history of the bible and all the translations. I am also sensitive to the fact that the evil one is at work and man is easily led astray so one must test everything. In closing, I pray that God's Will and Truth will lead you in your studies. Until He comes again, Ken John. |
