The account in Acts that you are mentioning does not exist in the oldest, most reliable manuscripts. The KJV is good - I have one and use it, BUT it was written over 400 years ago. We have found many manuscripts since then that are much older than those used in the TR, which is what the KJV is based on. If you would like an in depth discussion on this issue, read Metzger's Commentary on the Greek New Testament. | ||||||

Greetings Huron! Excellent response my friend! I always enjoy these discussions about the KJV. While I love the KJV (I grew up with it), it is just a translation like any other translation. Many seem to forget (or simply don't know) that the translators had to determine a Greek text (just like modern translators do). In that process, they had to make decisions about what belonged and what did not belong (just like modern translators do). The only problem was that they only had a handful of relatively late manuscripts (most of which came from the same family) to base these decisions upon. Now, we have literally thousands of manuscripts with which to work, some of them being much older than those with which the KJV had to work. So, one could make the argument that the modern translations aren't 'changing' God's Word, but eliminating the 'changes' made by the KJV's inclusion of questionable texts. :-) Keep up the good work! Tim, Thank you! The transmission/preservation of the NT is something that has been catching my attention more and more lately. I love the KJV for it's flow and sound, but if I had to pick one all around Bible translation it would be the NASB. As I'm sure you noticed, I still have more questions than answers! Regards, Huron |
