Subject: How do I make sense of the context? |
Bible Note: Joe I have no problem with Romans 3. I read it to say exactly as I’m stating it to you. We are lost, God reveals our lostness and gives us a chance to accept salvation. The only difference between what your saying and what I’m saying is, You state God makes us chose Him. Romans 3:26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3:27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. Or as the NLT says it. Romans 3:26 And he is entirely fair and just in this present time when he declares sinners to be right in his sight because they believe in Jesus. Romans 3:27 Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on our good deeds. It is based on our faith. Let’s go no further, before you explain Mormons to me in light of Calvinism. They know there are lost, they know they need forgiveness, the look to Jesus for that forgiveness through His death and resurrection. Admittedly their Jesus is not the Jesus of Christianity and they also add a requirement of work into the mix for salvation. But I believe everything they do in their religion is in defiance of Calvinism’s definition of the actions of a fallen man. Address this issue without bunny trails or changing the subject. EdB |
