Subject: Teacher, when were the 11 rebaptized? |
Bible Note: Greetings Teacher! My friend, you wrote: "No one, not one of you has shown me where the bible says, specifically, that baptism is a work. Why? Because it is not there." The Greek word for 'work' in Eph. 2:8-9 is 'egron'. It is defined by Strong's as: "an act, deed, thing done" Is baptism an act of obedience? Is it a deed done? The obvious answer is, 'Yes!' Therefore, my friend, we have shown you from Scripture that baptism is a 'work'! :-) You also wrote: "Why is baptism such a stumbling block for people who earnestly desire to serve God?" It is not baptism which causes us problems, it is the belief that one cannot be saved unless one is baptized. Our local church just baptized seven individuals a week ago, two of them were children of mine. So, I'm not opposed to baptism. I also teach people that we must obey Christ and get baptized, because He said so, not because it saves us. The form of the gospel you are proclaiming is legalism and works righteousness. Your salvation is based upon what you do, not what Christ did. This is why your position has been opposed, just as Paul opposed the Judaizers. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
