Subject: Unforgivable sin |
Bible Note: Greetings Teacher! Funny you should ask that question my friend, since someone once asked Paul the same thing: Acts 16:30-31: "He then brought them out and asked, ??Sirs, what must I do to be saved?? 31 They replied, ??Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved?you and your household.?" The Jews even asked Jesus what we must do. He replied: John 6:28-29: "Then they asked him, ??What must we do to do the works God requires?? 29 Jesus answered, ??The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.?" Acts 13:38-39 says: " ??Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. 39 Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses." John 3:16 says: "??For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:36 says: "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God?s wrath remains on him.?" John 6:47 says, "I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life." The whole point of all these verses is that salvation is not based upon anything that we do, but upon what Christ did. Listen to what Paul said about grace and works: Rom. 4:2 - "If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about?...." Rom. 4:4 - "Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation." 2 Tim. 1:9 - "who has saved us and called us to a holy life?not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time," What do we have to do? Nothing! Christ did it all! That is the beauty of the Gospel message. That is also why people struggle so mightly with the Gospel message. Deep down, we don't want grace, we want to earn salvation. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
