Absolutely. This is why I'm concerned about the meaning of the phrase "the knowledge of the truth." If we know what that means, there should be no question about whether or not Hebrews 10:26 is talking about a saved or unsaved person. You bring up a good point by refering to another, yet related, issue in this debate - whether or not the people who accept and later reject Christ were saved in the first place. As Christians lovingly bash one another in the name of Christ over this issue, I think the point that gets lost is that, whether you believe in eternal security or not, the end result is the same: reject Christ and die, accept Him and live. The only issue, then, is whether or not that person was ever truly born again. |

Hello Searcher, I wonder if any of God's truths can be debated "too much". I do agree that there come's a time to let off debate and to move on to other areas. But, I would be more than disappointed, if dicussion of any doctrine became "verboten" or even unwanted. I would not want to quench the work of the Holy Spirit and I am sure that you would not wish to either. Newcomers often ask "common" questions and it may be best to refer them to the archives as a first step in recieving the information they seek. Courtesy and a sincere desire to be of help is the spirit in which I would hope to reply in. I have engaged in the debate over "the preservation of the saints" (eternal security) several times since coming to the forum. I cannot say that I have swayed anyone one way or another. But each time, I have gained a deeper understanding of the doctrine for myself! Participation on the forum has also demonstrated to me my own powerlessness to enlighten anyone! It has been, I hope, a humbling experience. It has driven home the truth to me that it is the Holy Spirit Himself who must provide the illumination. It is my prayer that we have all recieved spiritual growth through our study of the Word together, and that God will grant us even greater growth in the year to come. God Bless You Fellow Searcher, John |
