1 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | ethan | 28043
Hello discipled. i am baptised and filled with the Holy Ghost and the proof is speaking in tongues. i have also layed hands on people and they have recieved the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the fact being they Spoke in tongues as well. The fact being God is not a Respector of persons nor a liar nor will HE put you down for not being able to recieve. the truth is how bad do you want it???? and are you prepared to do what he asks when you are baptised (clothed) and speak in tongues, (filled). the one point or Fact is . The Holy Spirit is spread around from direct contact with God or a man that has been or is in His presence (contageous). So get with a man who knows God and Works in signs and wonders in the Holy Ghost. Desire to know God with all that is within you. And God will freely Give all things to you. bless you. 1 tim 4:14 does your church practise the laying of hands for impartation of the Gifts and also prophesy? if not find one that lines up biblicly. bless you.
2 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | Reformer Joe | 28132
Wow...this thread is STILL going on?!? Okay, explain to me how your view that everyone can have the gift of tongues "lines up biblically" with 1 Corinthians 12-14, where Paul explicitly states that all DO NOT have the gift as a result of God's sovereign assignment of gifts? Please, no experience or other passages which do not refer specifically to spiritual gifts. I want you to look at what Scripture says SPECIFICALLY regarding gifts to point out to me that tongues is for all. While you are at it, show me how the gift referred to in 1 Timothy 4:14 is that of tongues. It seems more likely that some sort of teaching gift is referred to here. --Joe! |

3 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | ethan | 28159
Brother, if i can recieve from God because I desire spiritual Gifts. are not the Gifts given without repentance.Didnt Jesus say that if you ask you will receive? seek and you will find? knock and it will be opened. Did peter stop the romans in acts 10:44-48 because they had no interpreter? how did they know that the Holy Spirit had fallen?. the baptism comes from direct contact from God or through a person whom has been in His presence. if you dont beieve it you wont recieve it,Isaiah 7:9. Get with a church that believes it and you will be established.Bless you. now back to 1 corin 12:14 paul is speaking to the ones that have been baptised into one Spirit go to Romans 12:4-8 same subject.scoot over to 1tim 4:14 same subject. go to 1 corin 13, same subject. But this time he he can have all the Gifts but without love paul is just a fading sound in the echoes of time. Make sure you have the Love of Jesus and are doing His will then the rest will flow.bless you. |

4 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | Reformer Joe | 28183
Scooting over to 1 Timothy 4:14 does not give me the same subject. That is my whole point. The immediate context of 1 Timothy 4:14 is 1 Timothy 4, not Acts nor 1 Corinthians 12 nor Romans 12. Of course these passages provide a larger context for the verse in question, but so do Judges, 2 Kings, and Obadiah. Show me from Scripture that when Jesus said "ask and you will receive," he was talking about tongues. Please cite chapter and verse and make your point, because simply stringing along a group of phrases that Jesus said in a number of different contexts does not make them applicable to your argument. You are absolutely right that tongues were a sign of salvation for Cornelius and his household. I have not suggested that tongues were never a sign of salvation. What I am saying is that Christians have been certainly "well-established" without possessing this gift at all. Martin Luther was not a tongues-speaker. Nor was Jonathan Edwards. To my knowledge, Augustine never mentioned it. John Calvin did not speak in tongues. John and Charles Wesley? Nope. Since you seem to be missing my point regarding 1 Corinthians 12, let me point out the verses in question: "And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they?" --1 Corinthians 12:28-30 After discussing throughout the chapter the fact that God in His sovereignty has established different roles for believers within the church (along with different gifts that accompany them), he goes on to say very emphatically that every believer does NOT have every gift (including tongues). This is not due to a lack of asking or a lack of faith. This is due to the fact that God specifically ordained to assign them different gifts. Also, notice how far tongues is down the list. Why does your church major on a gift that Paul assigns such a very minor place? The fact is that Scripture plainly says, in no uncertain terms, that tongues is not a gift that all Christians will truly have. Therefore, it stands to reason, statistically speaking, that many in your church are faking it or are deceived into thinking that the noises they are uttering are truly from God. Perhaps it is you who needs to evaluate how "established" you are. I am with a very healthy church. What are the marks of a healthy church? A healthy, established church is one where the sufficiency and efficacy of God's Word is held to and boldly proclaimed and honored. A healthy church is where the congregation regularly engages in baptism and the Lord's Supper. And a healthy church is one where a biblically-based system of discipline is in place to keep the church doctrinally pure and free from gross, evident, unrepentant sin. The church I attend has all of these, and bears spiritual fruit as a result. --Joe! P.S. Isaiah 7 has nothing to do with tongues. |

6 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | Reformer Joe | 28293
Please try reading context! Romans 9 is talking about the pre-ordaining of PEOPLE, not gifts. You did not answer my question at all regarding your claim that God allegedly offers tongues to all. I will take that to mean that you have no response as to why Paul emphatically declares that not all are gifted by God with tongues. My gifts lie in the areas of discernment and teaching, and I am putting them to use right now to separate your biblically-unfounded error from biblical truth. Please don't quench the Spirit's work here. --Joe! |
