Subject: When will I speak/pray in tongues? |
Bible Note: ethan, firstly, please explain what you mean by 4 things destroy faith: Fear, Doubt, Reason and Anxiety. You see I do believe 3 of those 4 are characterisitics that show a lack of faith. Reason isnt one of them. So, if you please. Explain how it does. 2ndly, If I may be so bold as to ask. Where did you reason your words about power, authority etc? I have to ask because it would seem you are using "dunamos" out of context with what you said about satan wanting our authority etc. But since you didnt give any scriptual reference I cant qualify a rebuttal of any consenquence. 3rdly, Do you understand the Corinthian letter from Paul was a total rebuke of what they were doing in the church there? Paul was letting them know that they were abusing the spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit for the "edification" of the church. Not to used for self edification. Several times Paul said let what ever they do be to edify the church. The times he said self was edified was in contrast to the church. In the context and tone of the letter he was letting them know that when they used the gifts for self they were out of order. With the tongues especially. We notice that, because he wrote about it and qualified its importance in 2 chapters. Namely 12 and 14, and in between he wanted us to know what was more important. Chapter 13 ... the LOVE chapter. You see, when it came to the church, JESUS was most adamant that we LOVE one another more than ourselves. That was HIS 2nd command. If we are using the gifts of the Spirit for our self acknowledgement or self gratification or as prooooof to ourselves and to others that we are OF HIM then we may be missing the whole point of the use of the gift. Namely, for the edification of the church. In cases like what Ashestobeauty wrote about how this gift has helped her life....PRAISE GOD ....you see she didnt use it covetously. Hence, the Holy Spirit gave her this gift for helps and mercy. Covetousness is the most lethal of all characteristics of PRIDE. WEll i think it is anyway. Desiring a gift like Paul says in this letter is different from coveting. Coveting is a form of self absorbtion. There is no ryhme or reason other than "me me me me" when it comes to coveting. Righeous Desire is given to someone by the Holy Spirit that helps to edify the church. Without the help of the Holy Spirit all we do is in our own authority. And right now backing what i just said Scriptually escapes me....forgive me. Let us not convolute HIS story..... *shalom* |
