Bible Question:
Anyone care to dialogue about known and unknown tongues? You see, I have a hard time receiving the "initail evidence" of being Baptised in the Spirit. I have prayed years for it. I have had many friends and family pray I get it. I've even had scores of children praying for me. I believe the Gifts of the Spirit are STILL in fine working order and Not a ONE has disappeard since the canon. I assume some of my frineds in here are going to address this quickly. I do hope to get some thought provoked in all of US....... ...Lord dont let me convolute the story... *SHALOM* |
Bible Answer: Greetings to YOU ALL, Thank you for the wonderful words of encouragement and all the profound wisdom of Scripture. retxar, ashestobeauty,ReformerJoe,Hank, time does not permit me to jump into much dialogue at the moment. I will return in a couple of days and bring to you a more thoughtful account of all that has been said. I would like to add one thing though. All the tongues in the NT spoken ...are they not a known language? But not by the speaker? If so, then how is that a heavenly language? And a heavenly language, what is that exactly? Like Paul said in his epistle to Corinth, "thought I speak in tongues of men and of angels..". What kind of language do angels speak? The angels ive seen in Scripture spoke the language of the one they were addressing. So what am I looking for here? A prayer language to speak to God or a tongue know one knows what I am saying unless there is an interpretation? And if there is no interpreter I shouldnt be saying anything outloud. But for the sake of arguement, IF I WERE DUMB...I dont get the chance to speak to God correctly? Or be more blessed in my walk with God? You see, I've poured alot of years into wondering these things. And the best thing I can find right now is that Paul said, "I show you a more excellent way", 1Corinthians13 is the whole thing for me. Yet, If I am flowing in other gifts of the spirit for the edification of the church, am I still missing out in HIS blessings to me? Paul does tell me that all these things were specifically for that...edifying the church...not edifying SELF. But why do some feel I'm missing out if I dont speak/pray in tongues? I am still fulfilling the call on my life by HIM....but IM missing out on something??????? (seems I am overstating ...forgive me) ....Lord dont let me convolute the story.... *SHALOM* |
