Subject: Paul's evil practices Pre or PostJesus |
Bible Note: Greetings Jeff! First of all, thanks for the input! Secondly, would everyone please stop with the personal digs? For instance, you wrote: "Your either missing the point, or playing like a politician. That is, changing what someone else has said in order to discredit their argument or strengthen your own." The discussion has centered on one question only. Does Rom. 7:14-25 describe Paul as he currently (a believer) or does it describe Paul prior to his conversion. If is describes Paul as a believer, than what does Rom. 7:14 say about Paul? "We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin." Now, to me 'sold as a slave to sin' means a 'slave to sin'. :-) So, if Paul is describing himself as a Christian then he is still a slave to sin. My point all along has been (which no one has addressed) that Paul cannot be describing himself as a Christian since Paul also said in Rom. 6:6: "For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—" Let us focus on this one point before we go on to your other questions. Too many questions tend to lead to unfocused posts! :-) No one seems to be paying any attention to what the text of Rom. 7 actually says. Allow me to demonstrate from your post. You wrote: "What has been effectively argued, is that Paul viewed himself as a believer struggling with sin. Not SLAVERY to sin. A believer freed from the law of sin, the penalty of sin; yet still struggling with the temptation of and the giving in to the flesh." Yet, this is not what Rom. 7:14-25 says! You say that Paul is not describing slavery to sin, but Rom. 7:14 says that Paul is a slave to sin. You say that Paul has been set free from the law of sin, but Rom. 7:23 says that Paul is a prisoner of the law of sin. You say that Paul 'gives in' to temptation, but Rom. 7:19 says that Paul cannot do good, but keeps on doing evil. Let us focus on this question first my friend, and I will be glad to respond to your other inquiries. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
