Bible Note: Dear Brother John, Thank you for the link. I regularly read the Founders Journal! :-) I think very highly of Fred Malone. It makes me uncomfortable to find myself in disagreement with his exegesis of Romans 7:14ff. I do not disagree in any way with Malone's doctrinal conclusions. However, as I tried to point out from the article link I posted to you by J. I. Packer, these doctrines are fully supported from many other passages; Scripture passages that speak directly to the point of perfection in glorification. It is extremely important for us to hold to sound doctrine. The authority for our doctrine must and ever will be the Scriptures. But right doctrine based on the wrong Scriptures is as bad as false doctrine itself. Sola Scriptura is sound doctrine, but it compels us to properly ground all other doctrines by the right handling of the Word. This effort is ever the challenge of the serious disciple of Christ. This is why I made the "confession" regarding my previous position. None of us has "arrived." We must admit to others -- encouraging them to do the same -- that we be "reformed and ever reforming."
