NASB | Romans 1:21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 1:21 For even though they knew God [as the Creator], they did not honor Him as God or give thanks [for His wondrous creation]. On the contrary, they became worthless in their thinking [godless, with pointless reasonings, and silly speculations], and their foolish heart was darkened. |

Bible Note: DAIRYLEADER5 Don't you see what your doing? Your explaining away what God said. God never mentions sin here yet your rationalizing why sin shouldn't be a reason to prohibit a divorced man from pastoring. In effect your putting words in God's mouth and telling him He is wrong. Your appling man's understnding to God's will. You keep going back to David, David sinned and was forgiven, however David wasn't allowed to build the temple. That wasn't because he sinned but because he was a warrior. He had done what God had him do, drive the pagans from the promised land, yet God said I can't use you now to build the temple. You say if we take away all the men that are preachers we would lose alot. Look at the situation in the church today maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Your analogy of Saul doesn't fit, every man sins yet God calls many to preach. It isn't about sin it is about God's standards. For whatever reason God does not want divorced men to be Pastors. The fact that sin was brought up in your conversations before is because man always looks for ways to rationalize their way around God's standards. If we can convince ourselves it is because of sin and that God forgives and forgets sin then the prohibition doesn't apply. I have also heard many say it isn't talking about divorce and remarriage but rather having multiple wives. Again this is an attempt to rationalize this verse, if we say it is talking about multiple wives and we don't have them then we are qualified. EdB |
