Bible Note: Greg Now I see where we are heading. You aren’t just interested in calling the Law the Torah your building a case for Sabbath worship. Understand first the Sabbath rest was never meant to be a time of worship but going by the strictest letter of the word of God a day of “rest.” Know secondly that Jesus was a fulfillment of that rest, the Messiah is referenced as Shiloh (rest giver) in Genesis 49:10. Jesus Himself said He was Lord of the Sabbath. He also okayed His disciples from keeping the Sabbath allowing them to gather and eat on the day, also they traveled on the Sabbath which was virtually prohibited.. Sunday is a day Christian celebration to rejoice in the knowledge our Lord lives. What better day than the day He arose to celebrate His life ? We are not keeping the Sabbath but rather we are celebrating the resurrection of our Lord In the early church the Jews kept the Sabbath rest and Sunday celebration. The Gentiles kept only the Sunday celebration since they were never under the Law. Gradually as Jews understood Jesus as fulfillment of the Sabbath the Jews stop the Sabbath rest. You mentioned the Passover again Jesus is a fulfillment of the Passover. He was the perfect Lamb that saved us from death. Therefore just as in the Passover there are similar things we use in Communion to celebrate our salvation. Remember we are Gentiles not Jews Here in Florida we have 5 in trees. They take a Bitter lemon root stock and graft an orange, tangerine, lemon, lime and grapefruit on to the tree. The root stock gives them resistance to insects and rot and the branches supply the fruit. No one would look at the limb that produced an orange and attempt to call it a bitter lemon branch. It remains an orange branch grafted to a bitter lemon tree. Just as we are Gentiles grafted into the tree of Abraham, into the family of God, we are still not Children of Israel but adopted children of God. EdB |
