Subject: What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? |
Bible Note: Greetings Greg! I'm not sure how Acts 21:18-20 is supposed to support your point! Acts 21:20 speaks of 'thousands of Jews' who have believed, not Gentile 'proselytes'. Did Paul speak to 'proselytes'? Of course, he did. However, there isn't any record of him only preaching to 'proselytes'. Acts 13:43 meantions 'proselytes'. "When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God." However, notice what Acts 13:46 says, "Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: ??We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles." Paul did not say that he would now turn to the 'proselytes', but to the Gentiles (a different word). The crowd to whom he was preaching was made up of almost the entire city (Acts 13:44), not just those who were a part of the local synagogue. Furthermore, as we have already discussed, when he did preach to Gentiles, he stressed that they did not have to obey the Law. :-) Because of his faith in Jesus, he was usually thrown out of the synagogues - something which Acts records over and over again.
