1 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | The Disciple | 27598
Anyone care to dialogue about known and unknown tongues? You see, I have a hard time receiving the "initail evidence" of being Baptised in the Spirit. I have prayed years for it. I have had many friends and family pray I get it. I've even had scores of children praying for me. I believe the Gifts of the Spirit are STILL in fine working order and Not a ONE has disappeard since the canon. I assume some of my frineds in here are going to address this quickly. I do hope to get some thought provoked in all of US....... ...Lord dont let me convolute the story... *SHALOM* |

2 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | Reformer Joe | 27667
Are you sure you have your priorities right? "All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way." --1 Corinthians 12:30-31 "however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue." --1 Corinthians 14:19 "Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying." --1 Corinthians 14:5 Regardless of whether you think the sign gifts are for today or not, Scripture is clear: 1. ALL do not speak in tongues, and that is apparently ordained by God (as all will acknowledge that we are gifted differently by the Spirit) 2. Speaking clearly the word of God for instruction is vastly superior to speaking in tongues. 3. Speaking in tongues is NOT the "pinnacle" of the Christian experience. Paul says that loving others is a "more excellent way" of edification, and that prophesying outranks tongues in importance. You are not missing out on the Christian experience because you do not speak in tongues. If you are missing out on it at all, it is because you do not find your sufficiency in Christ and the knowledge and reliance upon God's holy Word. --Joe! |

3 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | ashestobeauty | 27669
You are correct Joe, it is not a must in your walk with Christ. It is a gift that you can either accept and use or reject and do without. It does not have anything to do with your salvation. It's like having a brand new car in your driveway and being given the keys to drive it. It's yours. but if you still want to walk everywhere you go, you are welcome to do that. (it will just take a lot longer and you may run out of strength along the way.) There are many reasons to consider choosing the gift of tongues. some are as follows: 1) When you pray in tongues it builds and strengthens your spirit. Jude 1:20 - But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit 2) When you don’t know how to pray for something you can pray in tongues and the Holy Spirit will pray with you (Romans 8:26) In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and knows exactly what to pray so you will be praying according to what scripture says. (Very effective) 3) Satan does not understand tongues. It is your personal heavenly language that only God understands. (I bet this drives satan crazy!!) All I know is I've walked it for over 15 years and it's real, and I would not live a day without it! If you try to reason it out you will never experience it... Like I said it takes faith! It confounds the wise.... All around it just makes your walk with God much easier! Kind of like a car makes your life much easier!! :o) Creatively His, ashestobeauty |

4 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | Reformer Joe | 27688
I do pray in the Spirit. I do not speak in tongues. Show me from Scripture where these two things are identical. Show me how Romans 8:26 supports tongues. "Groans too deep for words" are tongues? Doesn't wash. According to you, speaking in tongues IS words! Show me from Scripture where Staan does not understand tongues. Also show me from Scripture where it makes one whit of difference whether Satan understands my prayers or not. Also show me from Scripture where Satan, a fallen angel himself, does not know the "heavenly language." Show me from Scripture where everyone is ABLE to speak in tongues. Show me from Scripture where God offers it to all, and that we can accept or reject it. Give up superstition and stick to Scripture. Sola Scriptura. --Joe! |
