1 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | ashestobeauty | 27726
Hi Hank, First let me say that my goal is not to offend anyone or change anyone’s view on this topic it was simply to try to help someone that asked a question. So, after this answer I will not be getting into any debate with anyone over the issue. First let me define "babbling": The reason I used that word was because Joe quoted speaking in tongues as "babbling nonsense” otherwise known as: Your heavenly language or speaking in tongues. The fact that salvation is offered and available can be reasoned out, but we are discussing the evidence of it, which comes through having faith and believing. It is a gift, not based on our good works, given by grace. We simply have to choose to believe that something that wonderful is free and for us. Same with Speaking in tongues. There will always be debates on this topic (of which I really do not care to get into) What I was trying to do is encourage someone who would like to have it. And in my statement that it is powerful in my life I would say that, just as in salvation, "you shall know them by their fruit". I am a changed person because of it. I used to be very independent and needed no one, I did everything in my own strength and only included God in MY PLAN when needed. I hurt a lot of people and offended many along the way. To the point of almost loosing my husband and ending up divorced. I tried to change myself, looked into counseling, and read a lot. But what helped the most was my times spent just "talking in tongues". When I was down and wanted to give up... this would build up my spirit man When I was in a bind and did not know what to pray for, I would just talk in tongues and God would show me what to do, when to do it and how. When my heart was troubled but I had no idea why, I would talk in tongues and a peace would come over me. When I would deal with issues about me and things I needed to change I would go before him and talk in my heavenly language and get incite and direction as to how HE was changing me, and I simply needed to abide in Him. So, to answer your question "how specifically is it a powerful tool in your walk with God" It has brought about change in me and my life, much faster and to a more effective degree than any book, councilor, tape, or support group ever could. It is one thing to have the Holy Spirit "dwelling in you" but you go to a whole other level when you allow Him to work in you, one of the ways to do this is through taking advantage of your gift of "speaking in tongues". You are giving Him Power to work in and through you. That's the power I was referring to. P.S. Because of the power of God’s Holy Spirit in me and the fact that I took advantage of the Gift of speaking in tongues, I am still married and happier than I’ve ever been, and I acctually WANT TO be a submissive wife and work in unity with my husband (that's proof of the power!), God is blessing our Ministry and it is growing, and I am a changed person who allows God to be in control of my life. I still “slip up” every now and then, but I simply go back to the closet, spend time with Him, and “babble” as needed :o). |

ashestobeauty, You still haven't annwered Joe's question. You skirted it. Where does the Bible mention "heavenly prayer language"? Tongues of angels (1 Cor 13:1) is not the answer. What language did they speak on earth, to men? S |

The Bible doesn't IMPLY a heavenly language, but less state it. The "tongues of angels" does not work. What language do they speak? We know those that heard them on earth heard them in an earthly language. |

7 | Is "heavenly prayer language" Biblical | Acts 2:6 | retxar | 28257
Hi Searcher, Please consider: In Rev 14:1-3 the 144,000 are in heaven and are singing a song of praise before the throne, in what seems to be a language no one else knows. Rev 14:3 ...no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand... This is not an argument that tongues are the language angels speak, but it does seem to mean that God can, and does, give languages that are not necessarily known to others. Keep on a dig' an a searching, Searcher! Blessing for the coming year! retxar |

rextar, Rev 14:3 isn't the language spoken, it is the words of the song. Notice the word "learn". I do not see anywhere where God gives a language that are not necessarily known to others. The word languages is preaching another gospel (Gal 1:6). |

Sorry Searcher. I thought I just asked you to look at something. I did not realize I was "preaching" anything, let alone another gospel? Are you sure you think I should be accursed? (Gal 1:8). Anyway, the song of praise the 144,000 are singing before the throne (Rev 14:3) is a song of redemption that would only be understood by those who have been redeemed. That is probably the reason the others could not learn; not because of the words, but the meaning. Thanks for prodding me to dig a little deeper. I will leave you alone now, and will TRY to refrain from butting in on your future correspondence with others. Thanks, retxar |
