1 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | EdB | 73830 | ||
Greg I see my brother in the Lord Tim is conversing with you so I will step out and yield to his superior knowledge of the original Greek and Hebrew. From the little I do know of Greek and Hebrew you are forcing meanings that are just not found in the original. While your assumptions may appear to be logical they do violate existing rules of language, Greek in particular. Tim is better at explaining this. As for your argument of Jesus, Peter and Paul saying law and meaning the Torah, it has a problem in the fact that most of Paul’s ministry was to Gentiles who had no knowledge of the law. We see no indication of Paul attempting to teach the Torah to them. In Acts 15 we see a council of Jerusalem of which Peter and Paul are both present deciding what “laws” or “rules” should the newly converted Gentiles be given to live by. Peter addressing the question, should these new Christians be forced to conform to the Torah said, “why place something on them that WE HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO KEEP.” Then the discussion turns to Paul and Barnabas who tell how God honors the faith of the these new Christian Gentiles without their conforming to the “LAW”. At this point James took the floor and quoted from Amos the ninth chapter speaking of how the Gentiles will seek and find God. He then said let us not attempt to place them under the “LAW” (which Jesus had freed him and the others from) but rather tell them to refrain from things offered to idols, fornication, from what was strangled, and from blood. For your argument to be correct we would then have to declare the Book of Romans invalid and tear it from our Bibles. Romans clearly and with certainty teaches we are no longer under the “LAW”. EdB |

Tim I wasn't backing out of the discussion, I was backing out of trying to explain how he was reaching the wrong conclusions based on his understanding of the Greek. Your far superior to me on your understanding of the orignal languages than I so I bowed to your expertise. :-) You ain't doing such a bad job yourself on this subject. Keep it coming!!! EdB |
