1 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | Morant61 | 73905
Greetings Greg! You have a pretty good explanation of Galatians, but then turn around and completely ignore what it says in your conclusion. :-) Gal. 2:15 "??We who are Jews by birth and not ?Gentile sinners? 16 know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified. 17 ??If, while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! 18 If I rebuild what I destroyed, I prove that I am a lawbreaker. 19 For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!? " Does this passage of Scripture teach that obedience to the Law is necessary for salvation? No! In fact, Paul calls this position 'another gospel'. Are Christians still under the Law? Not according to Gal. 2:23-25. "23 Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. 24 So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law." In fact, Paul says that those who want to be under the Law again want to go back into slavery, rather than the sonship we now have through faith. Gal. 4:21 - "Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born in the ordinary way; but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a promise. 24 These things may be taken figuratively, for the women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written: ??Be glad, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who have no labor pains; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband.? 28 Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 At that time the son born in the ordinary way persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now. 30 But what does the Scripture say? ??Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman?s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman?s son.? 31 Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman." There simply isn't any way to reconcile your position with the teachings of the New Testament my friend! p.s. - Did you quote this information from somewhere or is this your original work? Just curious! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 73926
Hey Tim, I listened to a speech by Monte Judah and then wrote it. Again in my view, the reason behind the writing of Galatians is to stop the false teaching that one had to be circumcized first to be accepted by YHWH. Part of the problem is that we have Hebrew concepts being explained to a Gentile audience that has been translated from Greek to English (and maybe from Hebrew to Greek to English). There is a lot going on with Galatians. Paul talks about "the law", "works of the law", "curse of the law", "under the law"---these are not all the same concepts. Another part of the problem is that a lot of people do not know that there is a difference between "justification" and "salvation". Justification: During the Exodus anyone who by FAITH put blood on the doorposts was accepted (Egyptians, Canaanites, etc). Just as anyone who has FAITH in the blood sacrifice of Yeshua is accepted. Salvation: The mixed multitude of nations that were now known as Israel are given a marriage contract, there is an engagement period in the wilderness to see if the bride will be faithful, then the bride can enter the promised land. Israel was tested for 40 years, Yeshua for 40 days, the "church" for 40 jubilees (40x50yrs is 2,000yrs) to see if they will keep the marriage contract(Torah). This is eternal life/ salvation. Rev 22:14 "Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Think about it, if sin cannot abide in His presence and He defines sin as "transgression of the law/Torah"(1 John 3:4-6). How can we spend eternity in His presence if we do not keep the law/Torah? Jeremiah 16:19 "O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles (Nations/Ephraim?) shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have INHERITED LIES, VANITY, and things wherein there is no profit. If you are basing your eternal life on the writings of Galatians, I would call that "building your house upon the sand" (Matt 7:26). No one else in the Bible has another author warning us about MISINTERPRETING his letters and causing their own destruction (2 Peter 3:15-16). No one says be careful when you read Isaiah, Amos, Matthew, etc.---only Paul who, according to your take,is repealing the Torah as the standard to enter the promised land. 1 John2:4 "Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word (Torah) which ye have heard from the beginning." Isaiah 8:20 "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word (Torah), it is because there is no light in them." I believe Paul was an apostle of YHWH and Pharisee of Pharisees who would never speak "not according to this word". Tim, I am giving you some good stuff here. Greg Boone |

gjboone, the Christian looks to the work of Jesus Christ on the cross for salvation, not the Torah. And his reliance upon the teachings of the book Galatians is total. Do you embrace Christianity or Judaism? Are you, in fact, a Christian? And what is the real point of your argumentation on this forum? --Hank
4 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 73950
Hi Hank, If you could point to something specifically where I am scripturally in error it would be more helpful. I realize there may be an emotional attachment to your beliefs, but we should let Biblical reality guide us to the truth. I prefer not to label myself because labels bring up to many too many negative connations. However, I would describe myself as a truth-seeker. My purpose is to, hopefully, lead others to see the scriptures in a different light. A light that does not contradict itself across testaments and is historically and culturally sound. I welcome you to the discussion Hank. Greg Boone |

gjboone: Greg, thanks for your prompt and civil response; you did not, for whatever reason, answer my questions however, the chief one being "Are you a Christian?" In the many years (over 50) that I've been a Christian, I can't recall ever conversing with a Christian who would not divulge that he was indeed a follower of Christ or, for that matter, conversing with a non-Christian who declined to answer the question, "Are you a Christian." So, if you don't mind, please reveal that much about the status of your faith: Are you, Greg Boone, a Christian? You say that labels have negative associations attached to them? Perhaps you're right to a certain degree. Some possibly do. But the label "Christian" isn't tainted by negatives, not to Christians! The happiest, most glorious and most positive thing I could possibly reveal about myself is that I am a Christian! And, Greg, you in describing yourself to me as a truth seeker aren't really telling me a great deal about yourself, since I know so little about you and even less about what you define as the truth. But I can tell you quickly, using a quotation, what I believe the truth is. The quotation is from John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." This is what I have believed for over 50 years. It is what every genuine Christian believes. Is it what you, Greg, believe too? Grace to you. --Hank
6 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 73975
Hi Hank, Again, this is the problem with labels. I believe that the Son of YHWH came to earth as a Jewish Rabbi and taught us how to live, died for our transgressions of the law/Torah, i.e. sins (1John 3:4) and will judge every human being based on His revealed will to us (Torah and any additional commandments from the sermon on the mount). If by being Christian you mean am I a pork-eating, Sabbath-breaking, replacement theologist who ignores the Biblical festivals in favor of man-made pagan rituals (xmas, easter, etc.)?---No, I am not. See what I mean about labels? I will say that my roots were in Protestant Christianity, but I heard the call of Revelation 18:4 "... Come out of her (the Babylonian whore), my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues". Hopefully this answers your question of how to label me and maybe you will answer the call as well. Did you know that there are over 22,000 different demoninations within Christianity? "Every plant (doctrine), which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.(Matthew 15:13) Greg Boone |

gjboone: In calling Protestant Christianity the "Babylonian whore," you have grossly insulted a host of people on this forum, and you, sir, stand in rank violation of the rules of this forum. You have seriously abused your privilege to use this forum. You hide behind a cloak of anonymity, you play head games with the users, you mislead while purporting to lend credence to your private theology by citing Scripture, but your interpretation is both flawed and unorthodox. --Hank

Hank, If you guys are the whore now, what does that make us papists, since we have been bumped off our seat on the horse so to speak? Or are we riding the beast in tandem now? Emmaus |

Emmaus, I'm not much of a cowboy and know little about riding horses, but perhaps we could find, or perchance have found, a bicycle built for two! Best regards. --Hank
