1 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 73935
Ed. Paul said around 50AD, 2 Thessalonians 2:7 “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work:” John said around 90AD, 1 John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but TRY THE SPIRITS WHETHER THEY ARE OF GOD: because MANY FALSE PROPHETS are gone out into the world. After the Temple destruction in 70AD, the Romans wanted to wipe out the Hebrew culture. Everyone was under Roman control back then and it was safer to distance yourself from anything Hebraic. It was very easy for new Gentile converts to assume church authority and disregard the Hebraic aspects. This is partly how anti-Semitism started. The problem became institutionalized when the center of the faith went from Jerusalem to Antioch. “Many Greek-Jews lived there and it was here that the followers of Christ were first called Christians”. These Greek-Jews had adopted some of the world’s customs and compromised the faith. Antioch means “driven against” and is named after the great-grandfather of Antiochus Epiphanes, an infamous king who desecrated the Temple. The original apostles did not found Antioch. Notice the 1st letter in the book of Revelation talks about apostles and most agree it refers to the 1st 100 years of church history. Rev 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them WHICH SAY THEY ARE APOSTLES, AND ARE NOT, AND HAST FOUND THEM LIARS:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. The Pharisees were people just like Christians. Yeshua Himself preached the truth to them, some received others did not. Matthew 13:15 ”For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes THEY HAVE CLOSED; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Remember when Elijah thought he was the only one worshipping YHWH 1 Kings 19:18 “Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him”. The question is how many millions of YHWH’s people were disregarding the prophets and actually worshipping Baal? Ecclesiastes 1:9 ”The thing that hath been, it IS THAT WHICH SHALL BE; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Prove all things, hold fast that which is good Greg Boone |

2 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | EdB | 73938
Greg You never answered my question. Do you think the Holy Spirit is so ineffective that He allowed believers to be mislead for 2000 years? Also have you read the book of Hebrews? In this book the author makes an argument against the very thing your proposing. Persecution was coming upon the Jewish Christians, their world was being turned upside down, everything they held unto was being ripped from them. Many were starting to slip back under the law. The book of Hebrews was written to show Jesus was better, a better high priest, a better sacrifice, better than Moses, better than Abraham, better than the old Jewish rituals, better than the Law. In fact the word better is found 13 times in the book of Hebrew. Greg if you want to place yourself back under the Law then you may, but why would you? As I told someone the law still stands we were not given license to violate the law only forgiveness if we did. However some of the things such as Sabbath rest your proposing was fulfilled by Jesus and no longer exists except to you and a few others that have fallen for this “New Revelation”. EdB |

3 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 73953
Ed, How is the Holy Spirit ineffective if the person does not listen? We have free-will, YHWH does not violate that. As an example say the Holy Spirit is working through me in these last days trying to get people return to the Truth, if people close their minds, they won't receive it. Who's fault is that? According to the Bible the non-listener: Ezekiel 33:3 "If when he (watchman) seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; 4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, HIS BLOOD SHALL BE UPON HIS OWN HEAD. You say that Yeshua fufilled the Sabbath. What was the purpose and/or the fulfillment of Yom Teruah (Numbers 29:1-6), Yom Kippur( Leviticus 23:27-32) and Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:39-43)? If you do not know, you do not know the entire plan of salvation. That is exactly what satan planned when he entered the church (2 Cor 11:14-15). Greg Boone |

gjboone: Greg, if you will, please tell us what your rationale is for using the tetragrammaton YHWH for God and Yeshua for Jesus. This forum is visited by young and old and by people of varying degrees of education and biblical knowledge. Therefore, though perhaps you can show me wherein I'm wrong, I see no earthly reason not to refer to the Father and the Son as God and Jesus respectively. Do you? --Hank
5 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 73985
The reason is fairly straightforward. When YHWH spoke to Moses He spoke in Hebrew. He revealed Himself as YHWH. Because the name was so sacred the Hebrews forgot how to actually pronounce it therefore some people say Yahweh, Jehovah etc. I prefer YHWH. Yeshua is our Savior's actual Hebrew name. It means YHWH is Salvation. Why should I call Him by a foreign name? It would be like referring to a person named George as Gaylord (German for George). The term "God" can be misleading. Are we sure YHWH is the same "God" Muslims refer to? Greg Boone |

Greetings Greg! I have no problem with the practice of using YHWH, but I don't personally prefer it for one simple reason. Neither Hebrew, nor Greek, is my native language. :-) When the New Testament was inspired by God, the authors did not use 'YHWH', or 'Yeshua'. The NT authors used Greek terms for both. So, I figure that when I am speaking English, I should use English terms as well! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

7 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 74098
Tim, Yes, I do not think it is a major issue. I just think it is a matter of respect. I think we all would prefer that people say our names in English rather than some other language. There are some studies I have seen on the origin of the terms "Jesus", "Lord" etc. but I have not pursued it thoroughly. I think its easier to use the exact name He gave and that avoids confusion or any suspect etymology. I believe YHWH chose Hebrew for very good reason. I am beginning to learn the basics of the Hebrew language. From what I understand, once you do there are many different levels of understanding contained in the original Hebrew text.
