1 | Where does Jesus say He is God? | Bible general Archive 1 | IneffableUniverse | 46054 | ||
Well, this is my second attempt to respond. The first got lost in cyber space. First off, I do not believe the bible is the word of god. Period. Nor do I believe that the Egyptian Book of the Dead is necessary for life after death. Although the bible contains many words of wisdom, as do all ancient sacred texts, I believe most of it is metaphore and mythology. See, I call myself an agnostic, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS AFTER DEATH. NO ONE EVER COMES BACK TO TELL ME ABOUT IT!!! Secondly, I don't believe in an old man sitting on a throng (thrown?). If someone else were to ask me that question, I guess I would answer by saying, "I've lived life to the fullest. I've been of service to, loved, and been compassionate to my fellow human beings and all other living creatures I have had contact with. (This is true!!!) And I just don't believe a loving, creative energy that flows through all living things would send us somewhere to suffer for eternity---IF there is an eternity for us. Maybe, just MAYBE, when our bodies die, the lights go out and that's it! Over. Done. Non-existance. Hmmmmmmm........perhaps THAT is why no one comes back to tell the rest of us about what happens. Just a thought........nancy |

You wrote: "I've lived life to the fullest. I've been of service to, loved, and been compassionate to my fellow human beings and all other living creatures I have had contact with. (This is true!!!)" Is it? In every circumstance, at every moment of your entire life, you have placed the interests of others above yourself? Never -- not once --have you had the slightest selfish thought, acted cruelly toward another individual, been unfair, or said something you know was inappropriate for you to say? If this is not the case, then you have sinned against your fellow human beings and against the God who commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves in every instance and in every circumstance. As I said, your idea of what it means to be "good" does not match up with God's. You are shooting far too low for a basis of comparison. By the way, Someone did come back from the dead for the sakes of those who will be living with Him forever. --Joe! |

Hi Joe, I think we have gone as far as we should regarding our unbelieving friend. We have presented the Gospel. After that, what more can be said? Turning to a different issue... I would like your input on a topic of doctrine I am struggling with. The continuity or discontinuity of the Old and New Covenants. How would you handle this question? John |
