Subject: Where does Jesus say He is God? |
Bible Note: OK. Here's what I was going to say earlier to Steve. I listened to Dr. Ehrman lecture for an entire week at a seminar sponsered by the Biblical Archaeology Society, of which I am a member. Here are some quotes from his lectures: "No original texts (in Aramaic or Hebrew) exist, or at least have not been found yet." "At present, there are about 5,400 fragments, pages, parts of books in Greek scattered through the world in archives, libraries, museums, etc. That's it. And NONE of them are the same. As scribes copied them, mistakes were made and words changed. And mistakes mulitply." During the 1700's, a man by the name of John Hill found 30,000 differences in writings, based on 100 then known manuscripts. As more pieces have been discovered (5,400), hundreds of thousands of variants have been found---more than all the words in the New Testament! Yes, "Q" is theoretical, however the people who write for the Biblical Archaeology Review, or give TV interviews for Discovery, TLC, History, etc. channels (all of which are secular), persistantly refer to this possible list of sayings by Jesus. 'Course, if you want "sayings", I suppose you could just read the Gospel of Thomas---but I imagine that you are in disagreement with that document also. As a really good example of how words were added, just check your bibles for the last 12 verses of Mark (which was the first book to be written down). If your bible is "up front", it will be noted in the footnotes that all of these 12 verses were added much later. In other words, they were NOT part of the original text. Going to eat supper---I'm sure more discussion will follow..............Nancy |
