Subject: Where does Jesus say He is God? |
Bible Note: Hello Nancy, Thank you for responding to my post. I had hoped that you would. Your post was quite good in that your objections were quite legitimate, being they come from a person who is not a professing christian. I'm not surprised that you think the Gospel to be mere foolishness. It seemed foolish to me once. 1Corinthians 1:18,19 "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. You made some statements and asked some questions that I will attempt to answer from a biblical perspective. I don't insist that you believe any of what scripture says, but I hope you will at least consider it. Your first question was: When a mountain top is too heavy, the top slides down and buries a town. Now, would a loving God be responsible for THAT? Now, Dear Nancy, please keep in mind the fact that true christians believe that the Scripture is God's inerrant revelation to mankind of who He is, of how He relates to us and how we are to properly relate to Him. He is soveriegn! The Sovereignty of God. What do we mean by this expression? We mean the supremacy of God, the kingship of God, the god-hood of God. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that God is God. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the Most High, doing according to His will in the army of Heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth, so that none can stay His hand or say unto Him what doest Thou? (Dan. 4:35). To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the Almighty, the Possessor of all power in Heaven and earth, so that none can defeat His counsels, thwart His purpose, or resist His will(Psa. 115:3). To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is "The Governor among the nations" (Psa. 22:28), setting up kingdoms, overthrowing empires, and determining the course of dynasties as pleaseth Him best. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the "Only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords" (1 Tim. 6:15). Such is the God of the Bible. (Arthur Pink) God is love, but God is also just. If Christ has not paid in His blood and suffering for your sins, then you must pay for them youself. If what the Bible says is true, and I believe it is, this is the God who, In all His terrible wrath, you will face. Without Christ you will have no one to cover your sins. The time for mercy will have pased and you will be cast into Hell and there you will be in torment for all eternity! From the bottomless pit you may scream for mercy or perhaps you will continue to curse Him and blame Him for your fate. But Nancy you will have no excuse. Even now you are being warned by God to repent of your rebellion against His rule. Surrender to Him and you will spend eternity in paradise. Won't you even ask Him to help you to understand? It is not with joy but out of pity and fear for your eternal destiny that I warn you. I have prayed that God will open your eyes and place within you a heart that will believe. May He grant my prayer and make it so. Your Friend, John |
