Subject: Where does Jesus say He is God? |
Bible Note: Well, Steve, that's where we part company (if there was any in the first place). I do not believe in the divinity of Jesus. I think he was a brilliant, charasmatic young man who said many profound philosophical and moral things that people needed at that time, and still find comfort in today. How do you know Jesus wasn't just "pointing to himself" because he was trying to convince people to follow HIM and NOT the temple PRIESTS, who rejected all but the very "pure." After extensive reading, I have come to the conclusion that Jesus was quite the dissident, who strirred up controversy and trouble deliberately to get the attention of not only the common person, but also the priestly class (who ran everything for the Jews). You know that thing about turning the other cheek??? Well, historically, there is a WHOLE different and DEFIANT way to view that statement! Jesus wasn't advocating passivity, he was giving people a way to outsmart the person that did the initial striking. I'll give you the whole historical context in another writing, if you are interested. |
