Subject: Where does Jesus say He is God? |
Bible Note: Greetings Nancy! Thanks for your response! As you agree that 'Q' is theoretical, I will not pursue this topic further except to note that one cannot quote a theoretical document! ;-) The reason many of these scholars pursue 'Q' is because since it does not exist they can make it 'say' whatever they want and disregard what they disagree with in the actual text of the Bible. Now, concerning textual variants, there are many variant readings, but the vast majority are simply spelling errors or word order differences (which makes little difference in Greek anyway). Textual variants are a problem with all ancient documents, in fact, it is still a problem with today's documents. But, as I noted before, NONE of the variant readings impact any major doctrine of Christianity. Even in the hands of fallible men, God's message has remained crystal clear. So, your task, if you want to convince anyone that these variant readings have impacted the message of the Bible is to produce examples where the text of the original manuscript has been totally obscured and the meaning of the original text changed in a way which impacts a major doctrine. After all, is there any real difference between "Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life" and "Jesus is the way, the trth, and the life"? If you had 3,000 documents which had the first phrase, and 1 which had the second phrase, I think you could figure out which was original and what the meaning was! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
