John, would you be so kind as to tell me what terrible sins I have committed??? I am a registered nurse. I have administered to the sick and dying. I have shown great compassion for those in pain, physical and/or mental. I have not murdered anyone or broken any of man's laws (with the exception of a speeding ticket 12 years ago.), and I don't think I have broken any of God's laws. But I do not PRESUME to know what those are! The bible was written thousands of years ago in a different time and under far different circumstances. I find it contains much wisdom, a little history, and LOTS of mythology. I do NOT think a loving, compassionate, creative god-like entity would cast those of us who are also loving and compassionate but who may have chosen a differnt path, other than Christianity, into a hellish existence for eternity. Hell is right here on earth. I see it in the suffering, the wars, the famines, and all the other disasters that mankind either brought about upon himself, or was subjected to by "Mother Nature" and the laws of physics. I am a Unitaritan Universalist. I'm happy, have compassion for my fellow human beings and try to live a moral life. Why would god condemn me just because I don't believe in the divinity of Jesus, the man? IF God exists, I believe he/she/it accepts us ALL!........nancy

Hi Nancy, it's me again, CDBJ I was the first one to answer your post, it looks like you are raising some of the constituent's dander? Just remember it is a Bible forum and not a theological forum. Let me ask you a question just out of curiosity, and please don't get mad at me again. I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, that's not my object, and nobody really has to answer to what I think any way, I am a nothing, so don't assume that I am some lawyer trying to trap you with words. Now I will tell you that I haven't read all the threads from the time you started this post, so if you don't like where I am going just brush me off and I will understand. Just remember these are not my ideas but what God has spoken to mankind through his Word the Bible. The Bible says this, Hebrews 9:27 (KJV) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Now since God tells us this is going to happen, and we can assume that he isn't pulling our leg, it would behoove us to start thinking about what we are going to say on our behalf. Lets suppose that you just took your last breath, and then all of the sudden there is this tremendous bright light in front of you and you find yourself on your knees before a manly figure sitting on a throng. You are scared to death, pardon the pun, because you know that it is God himself because of the question he ask you. He ask you, Nancy why should I let you come into my kingdom; nothing more and nothing less? What would you tell him, how would you be prepared to answer? Now be honest as best you can and remember you can't put one over on this judge, like some may foul mother nature; he wants the truth and the next few million years depends on your answer. I am looking forward to your answer, CDBJ |

3 | Where does Jesus say He is God? | Bible general Archive 1 | IneffableUniverse | 46054
Well, this is my second attempt to respond. The first got lost in cyber space. First off, I do not believe the bible is the word of god. Period. Nor do I believe that the Egyptian Book of the Dead is necessary for life after death. Although the bible contains many words of wisdom, as do all ancient sacred texts, I believe most of it is metaphore and mythology. See, I call myself an agnostic, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS AFTER DEATH. NO ONE EVER COMES BACK TO TELL ME ABOUT IT!!! Secondly, I don't believe in an old man sitting on a throng (thrown?). If someone else were to ask me that question, I guess I would answer by saying, "I've lived life to the fullest. I've been of service to, loved, and been compassionate to my fellow human beings and all other living creatures I have had contact with. (This is true!!!) And I just don't believe a loving, creative energy that flows through all living things would send us somewhere to suffer for eternity---IF there is an eternity for us. Maybe, just MAYBE, when our bodies die, the lights go out and that's it! Over. Done. Non-existance. Hmmmmmmm........perhaps THAT is why no one comes back to tell the rest of us about what happens. Just a thought........nancy |

You wrote: "I've lived life to the fullest. I've been of service to, loved, and been compassionate to my fellow human beings and all other living creatures I have had contact with. (This is true!!!)" Is it? In every circumstance, at every moment of your entire life, you have placed the interests of others above yourself? Never -- not once --have you had the slightest selfish thought, acted cruelly toward another individual, been unfair, or said something you know was inappropriate for you to say? If this is not the case, then you have sinned against your fellow human beings and against the God who commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves in every instance and in every circumstance. As I said, your idea of what it means to be "good" does not match up with God's. You are shooting far too low for a basis of comparison. By the way, Someone did come back from the dead for the sakes of those who will be living with Him forever. --Joe! |

Hi Joe, I think we have gone as far as we should regarding our unbelieving friend. We have presented the Gospel. After that, what more can be said? Turning to a different issue... I would like your input on a topic of doctrine I am struggling with. The continuity or discontinuity of the Old and New Covenants. How would you handle this question? John |
