1 | Faithful response to gays / lesbians? | Rom 1:21 | Morant61 | 87130
Greetings JustReadMark! I would agree with Radioman2! We should reach out to homosexuals the same way that we would reach out to all people. Sin is sin. But, for some reason, homosexuality seems to get classifed as some sort of special circumstance. I think that most, not all, churches would be very responsible and loving in their outreach to homosexuals. However, because so many homosexuals refuse to admit that Scripture even teaches that homosexuality is a sin, it can be difficult to minister to them in because of their failure to repent or to yield to God's Word. No one would expect a church to tell murders that it is okay to murder as long as they love the person they are murdering! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Moran61: Tim, I am not so sure about "most churches". In most fundamental evangelical churches they have a hard time allowing divorced Christians to teach a Sunday School class, or serve as a Deacon, or even a trustee. That is reguardless of how, when or why these divorced Christians are in many churches eyes second class Christians. With this kind of treatment toward divorced Christians, what do you think their attitude would be to homosexuals? I dread the thought. If Jesus spoke to Matthew the hated tax collector, and the woman at the well, what should be our response Tim? justme (Mike) |

Justme I too have a problem with the way handle divorced people. However is not allowing them to hold certain offices making them second class citizens or could it be God for His own reasons hasn’t called divorced people into this type of service. In the Old Testament if a person was handicapped he wasn't to become a priest. Was that because God viewed him as second class or was it because God hadn't called him in to serve him as a priest. God has never called me to birth a baby does that mean I'm second class? No it means I'm a man not a woman. Are we taking God’s guidelines and interpreting them as something other than God intended. God said an elder should be the husband of one wife. Could it be that God has an very excellent reason for this that we have no understanding of? Should we assume it is God’s punishment for a man being divorced. That God views him as being a second class citizen. Or should we say God said it and that enough for me? Just a thought EdB |

Sometimes people do read into the scripture that which is not there. As far as the deacon being the husband of one wife, we hafe to remember were talking old covenent with new. Solloman was a man married to many, but he was chosen of God. In the old covenent it was not a sin. But Jesus changed us to realise that multiple marrages is no longer required to populate the earth. So Hes not speaking of not devorceing for the rong reason , hes speaking that we are only to be married to one pearson at a time. Example, If I had a wife that I married out in sin and she was also a sinner and she committed adultry against me, we devorce, that doesnot later on when God saves me, prevent me from becomming a deacon, even if I remarry a Christian woman. People today say the different, but does God only forgive everything ,except that we were married before?. ,i dont think so.

Dairyman I have heard that explanation too. That the passage was talking about only one wife at a time. However I don't buy it and according to history the traditional church didn't either. Only in the late 20 century when divorce has become so common did that new understanding of the this passage emerge. This to me is another adjustment of scripture to be politically correct. It is easier to adjust to society than expect society to adjust to Scripture especially when over 50 percent of the people sitting in the church are divorced Again we keep going back to the sin. No where is sin mentioned in this verse. God simply said he wanted men that have been married only once. There is no mention of divorce, of sin, or second class citizenry. There is no mention to the reason God said this. Divorce and adultery are discussed elsewhere. We keep trying to explain, justify or reconcile God's word. Why don't we just accept it not putting any words in God's mouth and live by it? EdB |

Do you believe that David was chosen and loved by God, and what about Soloman, wasnt he chosen by God to build His temple? If God is no respector of persons then How can he make a difference between these two and us? David was an adultrier and soloman had if im not mistaken 500 wives and 600 concubines. What do you think. When we were out in sin God forgave everything except ,we were married before. If he didnt theres a lot of people in church and including David and Soloman that are going to hell.

DAIRYLEADER5 It is not a matter of forgiveness, of course a divorced person can be forgiven. There is no mention of forgiveness or unforgiveness in the prohibition of a divorced man serving as a pastor. For reasons God never shared He simply said this is want He wanted nothing more nothing less. It is man that reads into this passage and tries to apply his understanding and meanings. We pretend to know what God was thinking and His reason for saying what He said. When in fact we have no idea in the world why God made this prohibition. As for David and Solomon yes they both served as Kings and yes I believe God loved them, but they were never called to pastor. EdB |

If you believe that one sin is as great as another, then the apostill Paul said that he was the chief sinner, he was a preacher, look at the sermon of solomon 2 cron 6;1 -11, eccl. 1;1 1 kings 8;14,15.I believe that God no longer remembers what we did out in sin but people will always. If a man who was devorced while out in sin is called to preach by God, who are we to say he wasnt?

DAIRYLEADER5 Once again you bring it back to sin. Did God say a divorced person can not be a pastor because of sin? NO! God simply said the man should be a husband of one wife. Why? I don't know but I suspect it has something to do with the effects of divorce. A great example of marriage is taking two pieces of paper and gluing them together. Bone of bone and flesh of flesh. The paper is stuck tightly together. They move in unison as one smooth and flowing.. Now divorce comes along. As you try to separate the two pieces of paper you soon find pieces of one tears off and clings to the other and vice versa. You can never get the two completely apart. There is a residual of the one left on the other. There is never a clean sheet of paper ever again. Now the divorced person marries another, they are once again pasted together but their is hindrances to the perfect union, the residual that was stuck to the one is now between them. While they are pasted together and become one there are still lumps stuck between them. No matter what the person tries to do some of the old spouse is still there. Because they were once bone of bone and flesh of flesh. Perhaps to be the pastor God calls man to be requires a perfect union one unencumbered with the residual left behind by our divorced spouse. It may not have anything to do with sin at all. It is just something God doesn’t want in the man he calls to pastor. EdB |
