I will quote Ehrman to you when I get time. I did it already once, but the entire thing got lost in cyberspace when I tried to preview it. Nuts! In the meantime, if you already don't know about "Q", I suggest you find out about it. "Q", I believe, has some accuracy to it.

Greetings Nancy! The only problem with 'Q' is that it doesn't exist. It is a theoretical document which many scholars believe may have been used as a common source for the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). However, there is no known manuscript of 'Q', assuming that it ever really did exist. What we do have though, are thousands of copies of the New Testament manuscripts, which as Steve correctly pointed out to you, agree on about 95 to 99 percent of their readings. Plus, the small number of variant readings which do exist in no way impact a single major doctrine of the Bible. We would be much better off trusting the documents of the Bible which actually exist over a theoretical document which no one has seen. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

OK. Here's what I was going to say earlier to Steve. I listened to Dr. Ehrman lecture for an entire week at a seminar sponsered by the Biblical Archaeology Society, of which I am a member. Here are some quotes from his lectures: "No original texts (in Aramaic or Hebrew) exist, or at least have not been found yet." "At present, there are about 5,400 fragments, pages, parts of books in Greek scattered through the world in archives, libraries, museums, etc. That's it. And NONE of them are the same. As scribes copied them, mistakes were made and words changed. And mistakes mulitply." During the 1700's, a man by the name of John Hill found 30,000 differences in writings, based on 100 then known manuscripts. As more pieces have been discovered (5,400), hundreds of thousands of variants have been found---more than all the words in the New Testament! Yes, "Q" is theoretical, however the people who write for the Biblical Archaeology Review, or give TV interviews for Discovery, TLC, History, etc. channels (all of which are secular), persistantly refer to this possible list of sayings by Jesus. 'Course, if you want "sayings", I suppose you could just read the Gospel of Thomas---but I imagine that you are in disagreement with that document also. As a really good example of how words were added, just check your bibles for the last 12 verses of Mark (which was the first book to be written down). If your bible is "up front", it will be noted in the footnotes that all of these 12 verses were added much later. In other words, they were NOT part of the original text. Going to eat supper---I'm sure more discussion will follow..............Nancy |

Nancy, I think it is proper to remind you again what this forum is all about. It is designed by the Lockman Foundation as a Bible study forum, not a discussion group on which to air every sort of idea and philosophy under the sun. Furthermore, every time you enter a post, you agree that it is biblically based and that it does not attack the authority of the Bible. Please review your posts in light of these guidelines, for the sake of all concerned, yourself, the other users, and the sponsors of this forum, the Lockman Foundation. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. --Hank

OK. You all can live with your mythological belefs. Please tell others to stop emailing me with THEIR attact on MY sources, which admittedly are based on archaeology and science, something blind bible followers refuse to even look at. Discussion and comparisons are a waste of my time with people who are so adamantly set in their ways. I suppose ignorance can be bliss....
